Other worldly........

7:25 am - 3rd Saturday - May 13th - Goosenecks State Park, UT - 54° F, 35% humidity, wind 1 mph out of the north.....clear, blue, cool skies today with a forecast high of 82° F.  The view this morning......↴

.....on this day in 2019 I had my heart attack.  Fortunately, for me, I lived, and recovered quite nicely.  After a two day stay at Palomar Medical Center during which I had angioplasty, and received a stint, I was released to resume my life.  Within a week I was back to work....life is good.

Tuesday, or 2nd Saturday, we opted to take a tour of the Valley of the Gods National Monument whose western entrance is just 7 miles from our camp at Goosenecks State Park.  We were on our way in Glenn and Laureen's Honda Element just before 11 am.  The road through the Valley of the Gods is about 16.5 miles in length.  You can enter off Utah 163 on the east side and drive it east to west, or on the west side (where we entered) and drive it west to east.  The road is easily passable by a two wheel drive vehicle with moderate to high clearance such as is standard on the Honda Element.  Years ago TLE and I attempted to drive it in our 2001 Beetle, and had to turn back about 4 miles in as it was just too rough for our low slung vehicle.  There was plenty of sun, and the temperature was perfect for a three hour tour of this amazing place....I will let the pictures do the talking today.....

 These rocks look pretty precarious

We found the only shady place in the entire National Monument for lunch

.....we finished our drive back to pavement just after 2 pm with big smiles upon our collective faces.  Our expectations were exceeded by a factor of 5, and how much better to be able to share it with good friends who happen to also be relatives!

As it turned out we picked the perfect 3 hour window to do the tour as by the time we returned to our Goosenecks encampment the winds had picked up once again and were gusting into the 30's the rest of the afternoon.  As a result I spent that time inside reading the second book by Jack Carr entitled 'True Believer'.

By 7 pm the wind was still blowing hard, and continued on into the night finally dissipating around 4 am this morning......thank you for stopping by!
