7:45 am - Monday - December 15th - TWW - 29° F, humidity 31%, wind 4 mph out of the east by southeast.....partly cloudy today with a forecast high of 66° F. The view this morning.....
.....on this date in 2024 TLE and I were in Flagstaff having lunch at The Lumberyard Brewing Company.....
.....one of our favorite Flagstaff eateries. We discovered this place back in 2017 when we were working at the Grand Canyon General Store at the east entrance.
Compared to Saturday, Sunday was a 'cake walk', as they say. I started the Ford 420 diesel tractor around 10 am, and then TLE and I loaded the large rocks we had unearthed on Saturday into the bucket, then hauled them out to the entrance to provide some deterrence to anyone who might decide to drive around the entrance gate to enter our property when the gate is closed. After dumping the rocks I filled the bucket on the tractor and hauled dirt to fill in the large holes leftover from the rock excavation. It is so nice to have a loader to do the heavy lifting.
Once that was done we began to haul another 5 buckets of dirt to finish filling in the low spots on the entrance road. I'm getting better at spreading the dirt out as I'm dumping it, so there is less raking involved after the fact. I think we worked on it another 90 minutes before calling it good for now. We're supposed to get some rain over Christmas, and we are hoping that will show we did a good job. If not, then we'll move more dirt.
We took a break at the picnic table in front of the house, and then began to put away our tools from Saturday and Sunday. Of course Sunday is NFL day. My L.A. Rams won easily over the Detroit Lions, and my Denver Broncos won their 11th game in a row over the Green Bay Packers 34-26. The NFL continues to be 'upside down' with Kansas City losing 16-13 to the L.A. Chargers to fall to 6-8, and out of the playoffs. The Bills stunned the Patriots 35-31, so the Broncos, now 12-2, have the best record in the NFL with two weeks remaining in the regular season schedule.
On a totally unrelated topic, diesel in Arizona dropped well below $3/gallon (down to $2.88 in places). The last time I saw diesel under $3/gallon was in February of 2021, just after Biden took office. It's been closer to $4+/gallon ever since (except for California where it is closer to $5+/gallon....thank you Gavin). A dollar drop in the cost per gallon of diesel saves me $180, or more when I fill up the Newell. Oil is down to $56/barrel as I write today, so the price of gasoline, and diesel will continue to plummet over the next year. As a result the cost of EVERYTHING will fall sharply over the next 12 months (airfare, ground transportation, food, durable goods, services, etc.).
Thanks for stopping by!
