Coming up for air......

The last time I changed the air filter on the Detroit Diesel 6V92 was in January of 2012, so it has been three years.  Surprisingly the filter was not that dirty, and I probably could have let it be for another year, but there is no penalty for replacing an air filter too soon, right?

 Out with the old....

In with the new....

 Made my work area comfortable....

The 'snorkel' all cleaned up...

Looks easy peasy, right?  Getting the old one out is relatively easy, but getting the new one in, and the two metal straps that hold it in place refastened is a b**ch!  I remember, not too fondly, the last time I wrestled the just removed filter into that small space.  A third hand might be of help, but there is just no room for more than one person with two hands in that cramped space.  Ultimately I had to use a 'zip tie' to hold the two ends of the hanging strap together in order to get the bolt in and catch a couple of threads before I could tighten it.  In all it took me a couple of hours of actual work time to replace the air filter, but the total elapsed time was closer to 4 hours because I ate lunch during that stretch, and took a couple of breaks to think out how to get that one strap hooked up again.

That pretty much sums up my day.....oh, I did pull the VW onto the concrete driveway to Tom and Darlene's garage to wash off a few weeks of bugs and grime late in afternoon.  Of course, the first time we drive the mile+ dirt road out of here to the pavement begins my wash job will be completely undone, but what the 'hay'.....it makes me happy to wash the car.

TLE spent the better part of the day recuperating from her oral surgery the day before, but by late afternoon she was perking up, and announcing to me she was taking no more pain meds.....she is one tough chick.  Sometimes I forget her toughness, but then I remember she birthed 5 babies after all......she has to be tough, right?  When she was in college she ran middle distance, and was quite good.  She hated wearing shoes of any kind back then, just like now, and would not wear track shoes to train.....she ran barefoot on the college cinder track to train.  I'd be crying for my mama after one lap on that track, but she ran lap after lap barefoot.

Thursday night was taco night at the McCloud residence.....I had five.  We watched 'The Blacklist' and 'Elementary' on the big TV after dinner........

Thanks for stopping by!
