Socially distanced pizza party......

7:50 am - Wednesday - September 30th - Seal Rock, OR - 55° F, 100% humidity, wind 7 mph out of the south by southwest......foggy, overcast, cool.....forecast high for today is 66° F.  On this date in 2015 we arrived at A.M. Solar in Springfield, OR to have new solar panels installed on the Newell......↴

Tuesday was kind of a change up for me.  I got a text from Terry Monday evening asking me to report to work at 9:15 am at the septic station wearing pants, long sleeved shirt, and rubber boots.....okay, that sounds ominous, right?  On my orientation day Terry advised that a couple of times per month they needed to pull the septic filters and clean them, and Tuesday was, apparently, the day for that task.  As I walked down the hill to the office this was my view......

.....it's the same view everyday.....the main variable is is it windy, cloudy, foggy, or sunny...or a combination thereof....on this day it was sunny.  Terry was at the office waiting for me with the golf cart so I jumped in and we drove down to the septic plant to join Greg in this bi-monthly task.  I didn't take any pictures, but I can tell you it took less than 30 minutes with the three of us working together.  It was everything you might imagine without me going into details, other than to say it is a smelly job, and this was one of the few times I was happy to wear a heavy duty face mask......lol.  By 9:45 am we were done, and I was on my way home to burn my clothing, and rubber boots......well, not really.....just to change into my shorts and t-shirt for the balance of my shift.

I spent the rest of my shift working by myself weed whacking around a couple of our cabins, and cleaning/sanitizing 9 of our RV sites which were vacated.  I was done by 11:45 am, and on my way home to take a shower, and then get dressed to attend a 'goodbye' pizza party for Ray and Myna Johnson......

....a few of the ladies had set up chairs in the grassy area across from the office.  Terry and Michele had gone into town to pick up individual pizzas for each couple from Grand Central Pizza in Waldport.  We ordered the pizza named for this fine establishment, and were not disappointed.  Once we all sat down and received our pizzas we removed our masks and dug in......

Left to right: John and Bonnie, Marsha, Tina and Bill

....and our guests of honor.....Ray and Myna

.....Bill gave us a little history on Ray and Myna's tenure here at SRRVC, which began, as I wrote yesterday, in 1996.  Until 1999 the park was known as Seal Rocks Trailer Cove.....in that year Ray changed the name to Seal Rocks RV Cove to bring things into the 21st century.  We talked and laughed until well after 1 pm when we bid our adieus and headed back to our homes for the balance of the day.

I sat outside reading once again, and enjoying the clear, warm air which had gotten all the way up to 80° F by 3 pm.  And, thus, another day at SRRVC comes to any end.

In with the new, out with the old.....

7:12 am - Tuesday - September 29th - Seal Rock, OR - 64° F, 49% humidity, wind 9 mph out of the east.....clear, blue skies today with a forecast high of 80° F......that's the first 80° day we've had in a long while, and probably the last we will see for a long time.  On this date in 2013 we had just arrived at the Richalnd County Fairgrounds in Sidney, MT to work the Beet Harvest.....our first sunset.......↴

Monday Terry and I were going to trim some more hedges, but an important part on the pole hedge trimmer went missing, and we had to move onto the next item on the 'to do' list.....remove the old indoor/outdoor carpeting from the concrete apron in front of the restrooms.  We've been kind of avoiding it since I got here as we believed it would be difficult, but now we had to face up to it and get it done.  It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it was difficult, and took us most of what remained of my two hour shift to complete.  The next step will be to clean the old glue off the concrete apron which will involve the use of some sort of pole scraper....I'm not looking forward to that either!

Anyway, I was on my way home at 12 Noon, and within 20 minutes had the screen door on the Newell entrance deployed, and one of the anti gravity chairs set up on the 'Lido Deck' so I could spend sometime outside for the first time in a few weeks reading, and relaxing.  The weather was absolutely spectacular.......

.....TLE worked 4 hours Monday, and was home just after 2 pm.  A short time later Tina Brown, the owner of Seal Rocks RV Cove along with her husband, Bill Brown, dropped by to welcome us, and she came bearing gifts.....a pound of smoked salmon, and a small bottle of Proseco champagne.....how sweet is that?  We talked for about 20 minutes before she bid us adieu.  Around 6 pm we headed indoors for a 'Zoom' meeting with the other staff members to celebrate the retirement of long time managers Ray and Myna Johnson, who had managed SRRVC for 25 years.  They arrived here in 1996 on their first long RV trip after they had retired.  They ended up staying here at SRRVC managing the park for the next 25 years....at age 90 they are finally, really retiring.....lol.  Included in the call were other Brown family members participating from all across the USA.....

Ray and Myna Johnson can be seen in the upper right portion of the 'Zoom' screen, and Bill Brown in the lower right frame

.....the meeting, which included our introduction to the Brown family, as well as those other staffers we have not yet met face to face, went on until after 7 pm, which is when the sun sets around here....had another beautiful sunset watching the sun dip directly into the Pacific Ocean once again.....we waited, and waited, but never saw the 'green flash'.....have you ever seen it?

At any rate, that was our Tuesday.....not much to 'write home about', but is our life nonetheless, and somebody has to live it.

Tommy Bahama.......

8:10 am - Monday - September 28th - Seal Rock, OR - 63° F, 49% humidity, wind 22 mph out of the east......crystal, clear, blue skies today with a forecast high of 77° F.....did you see how low that humidity is?  Hasn't been below 80% since we've been here.....makes for very, very clear skies, and no morning dew....everything is quite dry.......↴

The view this morning

It was back to work Sunday, and what a delightful day it was.  I worked about 2.5 hours cutting new 4x4 posts to length (4.5' each) so Terry and I could replace some which had rotted at the base.  Of course, this involved re-digging several postholes, something with which I am quite familiar.  In addition to that Terry and I did site checks to see who had left, and then cleaned those sites.  Cleaning the sites here means sanitizing them, as well as picking up any trash left behind.  The sanitizing involves spraying a diluted bleach mixture on things the tenants would have touched during their stay.....the picnic table, the electrical pedestal, sewer cap, and hose bib (COVID requirements).  When you only work 2.5 hours the time goes by quickly, and before I knew it I was headed home.  TLE was home by 1 pm having worked from 10 am to 1 pm at the request of Michele, the office manager.

Around 3:30 pm TLE I decided to break in our new Tommy Bahama beach chairs on the beach across the street from SRRVC (Seal Rocks RV Cove).   I love these chairs because they have backpack straps affixed to them making it easy to haul them anywhere handsfree.......

.....within minutes we found our 'spot', and sat down to enjoy the views, the sea breezes, and the smell of the ocean.......

.....there is no cell phone service down on the beach.....not sure why, but it's just not there.  But who needs to be reading a cell phone, right?

.....the sea was still settling down from several days of storms, so we had a lot of wave action Sunday........

......it was so nice to just lie in the sun, smell the ocean, and feel the cool breezes wafting across one's body....very soporific elements, so, of course, I took a nap.  Being able to sit at, or walk along the beach often, for months at a time, pretty much anytime it strikes your fancy was one of the main reasons we chose this location for our winter job.  We are both in our 'happy place' being able to live and work near the Pacific Ocean in a very rural location.  Every night we open one of the bedroom windows so we can clearly hear the sounds of the ocean, which are rarely interrupted by the sound of highway traffic.....in fact it is amazing how little traffic there is at night on this stretch of US-101.

Shaken, not stirred......

7:18 am - Sunday - September 27th - Seal Rock, OR - 52° F, 94% humidity, wind 7 mph out of the east.....clear, cool, blue skies this morning with a forecast high today of 65° F.  On this date in 2017 we visited Canyon Falls in Yellowstone for the first time......breath taking.....↴

After one rainy day following another for almost a week we finally came out the other side Saturday to a promised week of mostly sunny days.  Having spent most of those days inside our home reading it was time to get outside and do a little more exploring.  Between Seal Rock and Walport there is a beach with the name of 'Driftwood', so we headed there hoping to find just that......

....we took our first foot usie (we got that from Rich and Marnie) at the first shell we found.....

....whenever we are walking on the beach we are right in the middle of our happy place......

......ahhhh.....there it is.....driftwood.....yay........

.....there something so appealing about a fog shrouded beach.....

.....this will definitely be a beach to which we will return again and again.  Next up was some junking time in Waldport.  There are two very interesting antique stores located in Waldport in the same block so we parked the car and went to check them out.  We've been looking for a cocktail shaker for quite a while now, and we finally found one we liked......

.....the store (Enough) was having a 50% off sale so we go this one for $12.  By this time we decided we needed a cup of coffee so we headed across the street to Espresso 101......

.....for an Americano (moi), and a Breve (TLE).....this drive through also has a walkup window, and a few tables for those bipeds who wish to tarry a while and enjoy their selections.  From this vantage point one is able to see both ends of the town.....

......directly across the street in the parking lot of Hi School Pharmacy (don't ask....I have no idea) there was a car show in full swing so after finishing our brews we headed there next........

Nash Metro

VW panel conversion replete with Porsche hubcaps.....lol

Vintage Ford and Chevy pickups

Beautiful '65 T-bird with white pearl essence paint

.....by the time we finished our grocery shopping at Ray's it was pushing 2:30 pm so we headed for home.  It wasn't long until it was time for Happy Hour, and what better occasion than this to inaugurate our new cocktail shaker with some shaken, not stirred, Margaritas.....

.....and to  finish off the day we were blessed with a beautiful, cloudless (almost) sunset where we could watch the sun all the way to the horizon, and below.....

.....as we walked back across US-101 we caught the moon rising.....a little over halfway to a full moon.....

......I could not have asked for a better Saturday!
