For whom the 'battery' tolls....

3:36 pm - Thursday - August 11th - Likely, CA - 90° F, 24% humidity, wind 11 mph out of the west by southwest......mostly blue skies today with a forecast high of 90° F.  On this date in 2013 TLE and I were having dinner at Fiesta en Jalisco in Polson, MT on the shores of Flathead Lake.......↴

Excellent Mexican fare at Fiesta en Jalisco!

Tuesday was day four of our four day weekend, and as has become our habit we drove into Alturas to do our weekly shopping.....but I get ahead of myself.  I had a hair appointment at Kaleidoscope at 10:30 am, so it was our intent to leave home around 9 am to drive into Alturas, so we could do our shopping first.  I pushed the button on the VW key fob only to get no response from the VW.....it occurred to me that I may have forgotten to turn off the XM Radio tuner in the car 8 days prior when we got home from Alturas on our last shopping trip.  If it stays on for that many days the battery goes dead, and that is what happened.  Usually I can just jump start it with my battery pack, and the battery will recharge on the way into Alturas.

We got the car started pretty quickly, and were on our way.  Our first stop was ACE Hardware, and when we got back in the car it started, but it was a little sluggish.  Our next stop was Rite Aid, and when we got in the car to head to our next stop the battery was dead.....when that happens you know there is no coming back from that....it's time for a new battery.  I got a nice man in the parking lot to give us a jump start, and then we drove directly to the local NAPA store where I shelled out $202 for a new battery.....when did they get so expensive?

By this time it was 9:50 am and I had just 25 minutes to change the battery and get to my hair appointment.  Nothing like this is ever easy, and by 10:10 am I knew we weren't going to make it so I called Sheila at Kaleidoscope to bump my appointment 15 minutes to 10:30 am, which she readily agreed to since she didn't have a 10:30 appointment for anyone else.

I made the appointment about 10:32 am, and was able to go right in and get my haircut....whew....I really needed a haircut.  Once that was done we headed to Grocery Outlet, and then to Holiday Market to do the rest of our shopping.  By the time we got back in the car it was about 11:50 am, so we decided to stop off at Rubio's Tacos for some of their amazing street tacos.  We were just ahead of the lunch hour, and were in and out in 10 minutes.  As we have in the past, we stopped off at the local city park to eat our tacos at one of their picnic tables.

For over a year I've collecting single malt Scotch under different labels thinking we would do a taste test at some point in the future.  Well, that day finally came.  Kathy, the lady TLE shares the office duties with, is also a Scotch lover, so we made a date with her to meet she and her husband at their RV site at 6 pm to do the sampling.....

From left to right: Laphroaig, Glenmorangie, Glenfiddich, The Glenlivet, Macallan (Double Oak Cask), and Macallan (Sherry Oak Cask)

....I didn't realize I had collected six different single malt Scotches over the past year plus. The Glenmarangie is 10 year old, the two Macallan's are both 12 year old, and the Glenlivet is 14.  There is no age on the Laphroaig (an Islay Single Malt). We had a great time tasting all six, and talked non-stop for 2.5 hours before we had to head for home as we go to bed at 9 pm on work nights.  To say the least, a good time was had by all

Kathy and Richard on the left, of course

Thanks for stopping by!
