It's hard to believe that in 3 weeks (first of October) this RV Park will be empty and temperatures will plummet. The camp host here says that in the winter the ice on the lake gets 2.5 feet thick, and the winter is brutal. It is so nice right now.....high 70's with a balmy breeze......it's hard to believe this area will become so inhospitable to human life.
There won't be any pictures today as we stayed in camp all day. I tuned up our friend's Jamis comfort bikes, and then took a shower and spent the rest of the day watching golf, and football (yes USC won over Syracuse!). I took an occasional nap in my outdoor recliner as I watched the outdoor TV.....yeah, I got it out again.
Around 5:30pm we go together with our friends, Matt and Connie (the fellow Newell owners), and BBQ'd chicken, roasted vegtables, and had a fresh salad. A great dinner and conversation. Afterwards we took a long walk down to the boat ramp. You cannot believe how much wildlife there is right in this park in the early evening. We counted 10 mule deer, and 4 prong horned antelope, and too many cottontail rabbits to count. Oddly, there do not seem to be any coyotes in this area. It would seem to be their ideal habitat, but there is no indication of any around that I have seen.
Elaine and I were talking tonight about how glad we are we were finally able to hookup with Matt and Connie. We knew them very informally from two prior Newell mini rallies, but had never spent much time talking. Whenever you make these plans to get together for 3, or 4 days you don't know how it's going to work out. Maybe we'll have nothing in common except our Newell coaches, which, don't get me wrong, gives you plenty to talk about, but you always hope there will be other areas of common interest, values, etc. Well, it couldn't have worked out better in that regard. There is never a lag in the conversation, and we keep finding things in common, so it has been a great experience, and we are so happy we both made the effort to get together and broaden our relationship beyond "hello, how are you?". I think we have officially passed beyond casual acquaintances to friends.
Today for the first time there was no wind in the afternoon from any direction. Every day we have been here the wind starts around 1pm and goes until sunset....usualy around 15-17mph.....not bad, but not fun to be outside in, so I was able to stay outside all afternoon watching golf and football.
Well, that was our day.....thanks for stopping by!
Happy Thanksgiving!
