Just when you think you've seen it all.....

Sunset last night

It occurred to me yesterday that August 31st marked the end of 7 months for us on the road.  As I read back over my daily blog entries it amazes me how much we have seen, and it staggers me to think that we have barely scratched the surface.  We are just barely getting started!

Today, Friday, started out kind of slow, and, frankly, I wasn't planning on much....maybe a 10 mile bike ride, and then sit and read the rest of the day, but as you know our plans are written in Jello, and today that is what happened.  We did get out and ride our bikes for about 11 miles on SR530......it was almost like our own bike path.....there were so few cars coming and going.  We had the whole road to ourselves,  as you can see.  No, no one was under the influence we just thought we would use the whole road....lol!

After we got back from our walk our friend Matt Russo (also owns a Newell) suggested we get in his Ford Flex and drive south toward Manila, WY and see what we could see.  We started out just thinking we would drive to Manila and back, around a 60 mile round trip, but we got to Manila quickly and decided to head toward the dam, about 34 miles away.  This is when the trip got interesting.  Within a few miles we came to one scenic view after another, and the reason people visit Flaming Gorge.  With each stop it got better and better!

We stood staring at this view for about 20 minutes....

The colors today were amazing!

 Sheep Creek Overlook

 Red Canyon Overlook

More Red Canyon
And more...

We stopped around 4pm for a late lunch at Flaming Gorge Resort Restaurant, and, WOW, what great food.  Matt and I had the Flaming Gorge Burger with Jalepeno peppers......what a great burger, and the onion rings were to die for.

And, of course, the Flaming Gorge Dam!  475' tall, and 5 stories into bedrock!

We reached "home" around 7:30pm.....and to think I thought we would be gone an hour and a half!  It was a day of serendipity, great conversations and amazing view after amazing view.  I am still glowing with the satisfaction of a day well spent.  All told were gone around 7 hours and drove around 135 miles.
