Day One...

The overnight temp got down to 36 degrees Sunday night, and we had more than just the two electric heaters going to warm the coach up first thing in the morning.   Just a side note.....we don't have heaters on during the night, but even though it gets into the 30's at night, the inside temp is only getting down to 61, or 62, but that is still cold first thing in the morning!

We had a "meet and greet" meeting for Amazon from 1-3pm, so we piddled around most of the morning.   There appeared to be about 40 in our "class".  We had our pictures taken for our ID cards which are used to enter and exit the facility each day, and clock in and out.  Not too complicated, but we'll see tomorrow when we actually have to begin clocking in and out to start and finish each day, as well as for "lunch", which is really going to be a relative term for us since were assigned the night shift.  The night shift begins at 5:30pm and ends at 4am.  We will work Tuesday's through Friday's each week with Saturday, Sunday and Monday off. For our first two weeks we will only work 5 hour shifts giving us a chance to become "job hardened" as they call it.  I like the idea of easing into this job 5 hours at a time.  About half the new people at the meeting were staying at the main park, Heartland (where we are), which is directly across the street from Amazon.  We had considered staying at two other area parks, which are only a few miles from Amazon, but the idea of having to drive every day into work, and find a parking spot, sometimes in fog, did not appeal to us.  It is less than a 4 minute walk from our coach to work, so that's what we went for, and I'm glad we did.

The "meet and greet" only lasted until 2:30, so we headed into town to get some pipe wrapping for our water hose that supplies water to our coach.  It will get down below freezing soon for several hours each night and we need to be prepared for that by wrapping our water hose to prevent it from freezing.  This actually happened to us several times at Rancho Jurupa last year.  We have an electric heater that heats the water bay so nothing will freeze in there (fresh, black, or gray water).

And, of course, the answer is yes....I will be putting insulation around the blue water filter in foreground.....I just didn't buy enough material my first and second time at Lowes.....what would any self respecting "do it yourself" project be without 3 trips to Lowes.....hmmmmm?

We finally BBQ'd the bacon wrapped filets we bought in Strafford, MO over a week ago, and they were great with the mashed potatoes and salad TLE served up!  After that we spent a quiet evening watching a little Monday Night Football, and hit the sack early (10pm) since we have to be at Amazon by 8:15 in the morning for our "Orientation" and Safety meetings, and it is supposed to be cold again.

Stay tuned for a recap of our Amazon Orientation day....there is just never any end to the excitement!

Thanks for stopping by!
