Right under our noses

Our "written in Jello" plans had us moving from our full hook up site to a dry camp spot on Wednesday.  In anticipation of this move I was dumping the gray and black tanks to be sure we started our 5-7 day dry camp with empty waste tanks.  As I related previously we had arrived here at Red Gate Farms RV Campground without reservations just 5 days before one of the biggest annual events here in Savannah....St. Patrick's Day.  We were informed by J.D., the  young owner, at the time that the park was booked from Wednesday on by people coming in for the parade, and associated events happening on Saturday the 16th.  He gave us site 11 for 2 days, but then he would have to move us to a site with no hookups to make way for those with prior reservations.

Around 11 am he came knockin' at the door with, I assumed, information as to our dry camp location.  Instead he said he had a cancellation and an open, private spot, where we could move to for the next 7 days....SCORE!  We took him up on the offer, paid for the next week, and then moved into our spot.  We have no neighbors, and a view of the pasture  to the southeast of us.  Normally this spot is about $15 more per night than we were paying, but he gave it to us for the same price we had paid for the non-private spot we were in.

Within 30 minutes we were settling in to our new spot, and getting ready to take a walk around the property.  I had no idea how big this property was, or that in the very back of the property was The Mackey House, and old plantation style home built on the property in the early 1900's.  We walked for about 3/4 of a mile through a wooded area and came to this home, which, today is used a a wedding venue.  We walked along nature trails winding around several large ponds.  All told we walked about 2 miles....it was good to get out and stretch our legs.

Around 4:30 we headed over to the local Pro Bass Shop (whenever we are near a Cabelas, or Pro Bass Shop we make an effort to check them out) at the Savannah Mall to look around, then into town to check out a local beer place our friends Karen and Krash recommended.....Crystal Beer Parlor....an "off the beaten path" local hangout.  They have a great selection of draft beer, and an even bigger selection of bottled beer, as well as a great menu.  It has been around since 1933, and based on yesterday around 5:30 it is very, very popular.  Within minutes of our sitting down at this table the place was standing room only, with a line of people out the door....talk about good timing!  Yelp gives them a 4, and Tripadvisor a 4.5...I would give them a solid 4.5!

The inauspicious entrance

We each ordered a pint of Rogue Brewery Chocolate Stout and a single plate of their Bleu Chips.....a very decadent appetizer.....potato chips smothered in a bleu cheese sauce!  This is a very friendly place......kind of reminds me of the Cheers Bar in the famous sitcom.

Our server, Kelly, made us feel right at home.....she really took time to go over their draft beer list, beer by beer, and checked in on us every few minutes.  She made us feel like we were the only ones in the bar, and she was rewarded accordingly when it came time to settle our bill.

Our new view

TLE hamming it up for the camera

We arrived back "home" just about sunset, and settled in for the night.  We had a couple of programs in the DVR that had recorded the night before (Hells Kitchen and Body of Proof), so we watched them, and then called it a day.  Another nice day.....really enjoying the dry, cool weather!

Thanks for stopping by!
