So far this year our daily visitor totals have been below what we experienced this time last year, but Sunday all that changed......a little after 1300 hours we passed 200 visitors for the day, and by day's end we totaled 306. I don't know if we had a 300 visitor day last September on any of our shifts.......and this is what it looked like most of the time until Sunday.....
.......then Sunday the visitors began to arrive in droves.........
199 visitors by 1320 hours!
........this is what it looked like in our little slice of heaven most of the day......lots of people milling around.....we all love it when there are a lot of visitors, because the time begins to pass by more quickly.....
.....we had the 'middle shift' Sunday, which means we arrive at the gate by 0945, and are back at the gate to close it at 1515 hours........I've written that the'middle shift' is a 6 hour shift, but as far as work goes we are on duty from 1000 hours until 1230 hours when we take lunch, or 2.5 hours, then on duty from 1300 hours to 1515 hours, or 2.25 hours, when we shut the gate to vehicle traffic.....a total of just 4.75 hours. When I drove out to the gate to shut it there were 10 customer vehicles in the parking lot, and by 1540 hours they were all gone and we were on our way home looking forward to two shiftless days. On Mondays the 'Friends of the Lighthouse' do the tours in period dress, and on Tuesdays the lighthouse is closed to tours.
I watched a couple of US Open (tennis) matches before TLE and I walked down to the 'phone booth' around 1900 hours to join Mike, Liz and Nancy in some whale and sunset watching........
The gang.....left to right: Nancy, Liz, TLE and Mike

Another gorgeous sunset at the Cape
......we saw whales 'blowing', and breaching the surface over and over for close to an hour, and then caught another gorgeous sunset at the 'phone booth' before retiring to our abodes for the evening.....
Thanks for stopping by!
