Shiftless....

As we drove away from our 'top shift' on Thursday around 1300 hours I turned to TLE and said...."....we really don't have just one day off......we don't go back to work until 1300 hours on Saturday, so we will really be 'shiftless' for the next 48 hours....".....I can't think of many better places than Cape Blanco to be shiftless........can you?

Looking south toward Port Orford

Around mid morning I got on my Intense 5.5 mountain bike to take a ride on some of the local trails.....the views along the South Cape Trail were just stunning......an hour later, and some 7+ miles under my belt I returned to the coach......the 7+ miles included two descents on the very steep beach road with the requisite return climbs (one at the beginning of the ride, and one at the end).

Around 1400 hours I walked down to the 'phone booth' carrying a beach chair to make my weekly phone call to my sister Jill......then around 1500 hours TLE and I went hiking along the South Cape Trail and down the short trail to Agate Beach, or 'north beach' as we call it.....

The South Cape Trail 'pano' view

.......the tide was pretty close to 'high tide' so we weren't able to walk too far so we just sat and enjoyed the view.....

.....by the time we returned to the coach we have covered just under 3 miles.....I took a shower, then a nap........

Around 1830 hours we once again made our nightly pilgrimage to the 'phone booth' to spend time with friends Mike and Liz watching the sun set, and talking about this and that......we were joined once again by Nancy, then two more people (Alex and Hamid) whom Mike and Liz had met at the lighthouse earlier in the day......Alex owns an environmental company, and Hamid is an architect....both are based in San Francisco and are on their annual 'guys week away from home and family'.  They both immigrated from Iran back in the 70's as teenagers......the conversation flowed non-stop.......they had as many questions about our lifestyle as we did about their lives in the USA since immigrating.  We were once again reminded about how this nomadic life brings you in contact with the most interesting people, and being here at Cape Blanco just enhances that experience......

Time for salsa, chips and a little single malt....

.....before we knew it darkness was settling once again over the Cape that is called Blanco....we bid adieu to our new and current friends, and headed up the hill to our domicile for the night.....another magical day in the books.

Thanks for stopping by!
