The winds of Cape Blanco.....

We started out our day by driving into Port Orford around 0830 to meet the other hosts (lighthouse and campground) here for breakfast at Hook'd Cafe (Yelp - 5 stars on 14 reviews).....of the 9 there 6 were lighthouse hosts.  All that being said, the food was very, very good.  This is the first time I have ever eaten at a restaurant with a 5 star Yelp rating.  I had the 'Hook'd Scramble' (bacon, 3 eggs, peppers, mushrooms, onions, etc.) and I cherished every single bite.

This was our first visit to Port Orford this time around, and it has changed little from a year ago.  After breakfast we headed to Ray's Food Place to do small grocery shopping, and we actually got out with a full small shopping basket.  We were back home by 1100 hours to find the winds of Cape Blanco have returned in force.  The rest of the day the wind was steadily over 20 mph, with gusts up to 37 mph at times.

Around 1500 we decided to take a walk on 'south beach' in spite of the wind.....we stopped off at the 'phone booth' to take a few pictures.......

.....the ocean had this wonderful silvery sheen to it.......then it was off to walk down the road to the beach.....TLE and I call it the 'enchanted forest'......

.....we opted to walk north into the wind, and at times we were both leaning into the wind....a couple of times we came to a standstill as the ferocity of the wind increased......

......the tide was at its lowest as we approached the cape, and we were able to walk the further north along the beach than we had previously........

At 'lands end' looking south

Having walked into the wind on the way up to the Cape we now had the wind at our backs all the way back to the beach road......I took this short video to give you an idea of the velocity of the wind.

In all we walked just over 3.4 miles round trip, and we were reminded of all the reasons why we love walking on 'south beach' no matter the weather, or conditions.  We were back at the coach by 1630 warming up our extremities.

I spent the evening watching, first, the US Open match between the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, which was won in 3 sets by Serena, then the Dodger game vs. the Angels, which was won by the Dodgers 6-4 helping them maintain their 8.5 game lead over the San Francisco Giants.

Thanks for stopping by!
