Big Pine, Independence, Lone Pine, Cartago, Olancha, Coso Junction, Inyokern, Rosamond, Mojave, & Lancaster.....they all hold good memories for us!

Last year we did the drive from Lone Pine to Ventura in one day.....Lone Pine is 60 miles south of Bishop, and that would make it a longish day for us at 302 miles, so we decided to split the drive into two days making the fairgrounds in Lancaster our overnight stop, and leave the last 106 miles for Thursday.

The overnight low was in the upper teens once again.....and once again it is way past time to get to sea level and more moderate day and night temps!  I was up by 0600 in anticipation of an earlyish departure, and we were on our way south once again by 0900.  Traffic was lite as we left the southern outskirts of Bishop in our rear view mirrors, so I just set the cruise control at 60 mph, and held on to the steering wheel watching the scenery float past.  We had about 196 miles to traverse to Lancaster, so we took a break at the Coso Junction Rest Area which happens to be exactly half way to our destination....perfect!  While we were stopped I took time to check the temperatures of all 10 tires looking for the outlier.....the one that is running way hotter than the rest....on this day there were no outliers, so after about 10 minutes we were on our way once again.

The infra red temp gun I use to check the tires.....available at most auto parts stores....

Almost as soon as we merged on to US 395 in Bishop my window was open.....with clear skies and a blazing sun it was warming up quickly....haven't been able to drive with the window open in a long, long time.

The drive to Lancaster was completely uneventful, and traffic remained lite all the way to exit #45......uneventful is the operative word when we are moving.  There is a relatively large RV park at the fairgrounds, and it is 100% asphalt helping make most of the sites pretty level.  The back in, and pull through sites are enormous, and will fit pretty much any size RV/trailer option.  All sites offer 20, 30 and 50 amps service, plus water and sewer.  If you choose a back in site you only pay $20, but the pull through sites, which we prefer, cost $5 more......why I don't know.....nevertheless, at $25 it is a good value for us.  The restrooms, which include showers, are clean, and look pretty new.  The park is clean, and well kept.  There is a manager on site, but unless you have a problem, you can just self register and drop your payment envelope in the 'iron ranger'.

We arrived at the RV entrance just before 1300, and were set up by 1330.....I spent the next the rest of the afternoon doing routine checks.....check the oil, check the transmission fluid level, check the coolant after it cooled down, check the air pressure of all 10 tires after they had cooled down.

Around 1530 we decided to take a walk around the fairgrounds.....not necessarily to see anything, but mostly for exercise.....I walked in shorts, t-shirt and flip flops.....the first time I have been able to do that in weeks.  By the time we returned from our 1.2 mile walk the sun was dipping low in the western sky.....Thursday we will see it touch the ocean once again......YAY for us!

Thanks for stopping by!
