5:56 am - Sunday - November 12th - Grand Canyon - 28º F, humidity 48%, wind 2 mph out of the northeast.......will be cloudy today according to the forecast, and our high will be 63º F.....no rain, or snow in the forecast, but at Mammoth Hot Springs it is a different story this morning.....

Picture taken by our good friend Dodge....brrrrr!

The trail we walk on our way to work

As is our custom on good weather days, which is all we have had so far, we walked to work.....we got there about 15 minutes early, but that was by my design.....I wanted to be able to walk down to canyon rim near The Watchtower, and take a few pictures in the early morning light.....my pictures do not do the view justice.......

A couple of hawks photo bombed my picture!

The view was long at 7:50 am

Saturday was a very long day......we reported for work at 8 am and didn't head for home until 6 pm.  It was also another day of firsts......both TLE and I had stints at the cash register.....her in the morning, and me after lunch until closing.  In between all that we continued to count, and verify prior counts.....and count, and count and count....oy vey!

In the morning I spent time back down at the Trading Post counting........

.....then I returned to the General Store to verify the 'beer' count in the large walk-in refrigerator.....that took the better part of two hours, and then it was 12:30 pm and time for lunch.  TLE beat me to the fountain where she ordered a large salad, and a 'Beef Dip', both of which we split....total cost...$7 and change.

At 1 pm I took over the cashier duties from TLE and she spent the afternoon counting inventory.  Around 3:30 pm the computer system began to slow down and it was taking 30-40 seconds for it to process each product I would scan, and then if the customer paid by credit card it would take 2-3 minutes instead of the usual 3-5 seconds.  It got so slow my line began to back up so TLE came to the rescue and opened up the other register to help process the customers.  It was a Saturday after all, and as might be expected we had a significant increase in visitors over Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

We closed the doors at 5 pm at which time TLE and I helped some more with the daunting inventory count......by 5:30 we were counting out our drawers, and by 6 pm we were walking out the door and on our way home after a 10 hour day.

I spent the evening watching some great college football games....TLE's Miami Hurricanes stomped Notre Dame 41-8....'Bama barely prevailed over Mississippi State with a late touchdown, and Auburn upset #1 Georgia.  We were in bed by 10 pm and dreaming of Sunday....the last day of inventory.  It will be nice to settle into a more comfortable routine for the winter months.  It looks like our work week will consist of 25 hours a week, which will give us time to do some much anticipated hiking and exploring of this amazing National Park.

Thanks for stopping by!
