Bird food?

7:37 am - Tuesday - August 15th - LPG&RVR - 67° F, humidity 48%, wind 2 mph out of the south by southeast.....crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 94° F.  On this date in 2014 TLE and I were enjoying a late lunch at Walker Burger in Walker, CA on our way to Mammoth Mountain for weekend of mountain bike riding with good friends.....↴

After working 5 straight days I was able to sleep until around 6:30 am.  That extra 90 minutes was just what I needed.  After lingering over our morning coffees for about an hour TLE and I headed outdoors to install our new Ozark Trails canopy cover received from Amazon a few days ago.  We bought this pop up canopy from Walmart back in the summer of 2019, and have had it deployed wherever we have spent more than a few days ever since with nary an issue.  She has endured microbursts of wind, hail, and heavy rainfall.  Recently we had another windstorm which  caused a few tears to appear, which we taped together with red duct tape, but it was obvious she had hit the end of the road after 4 summers.  The replacement canopy (just the fabric) appears to be much better made, if that is possible, with reinforcements at all the points where we had tears in the old one.  Additionally, our cart mechanic, Bob Longacre, gifted me a 'wall' panel from his recently deceased popup canopy, so we installed that at the same time....

.....with the addition of the 'wall' panel we now have shade in the morning on the 'lower deck'.  The installation of the new canopy was remarkably easy as this was a direct drop in replacement.

Next up I decided to bite the bullet, get the tweezers out, and remove the 100 grasshoppers from the grill of the VW so I could wash her, but when I knelt down to begin the tweezing process I discovered all the grasshoppers we gone.....vanished into thin air....

Before...

....after

.....my only surmise is that the local bird population must have spent some time feasting on this bird food bonanza....lol.  At any rate, all I have to do now is wash off the grasshopper residue.

By the time I finished NOT removing 100 grasshoppers from the VW grill it was getting much hotter, so I headed inside to the cool confines of the Newell, and pretty much spent the rest of the day inside as the temps hit 94° pretty early in the afternoon, and remained there until well after 5 pm.  Just a few more days of what passes for a heatwave here in Modoc County, and we'll be back into the 70's and 80's and maybe even some rain next week.

Around 6 pm I lit the Sea-B-Que to grill another London Broil steak we recently purchased from Holiday Market it town.  We actually got a package containing two of these cuts, which were on sale for under $10 as they getting getting that darker aged look, which we prefer, but most customers do not.  TLE has been letting the first one age in the fridge for about a week, and did it ever turn out very tender!  It was still pretty warm outside at 6 pm, and standing next to a hot Sea-B-Que putting out 400° F of heat was not that enjoyable, but I endured, and the result was amazing.

Thanks for stopping by!
