Bucket lists....

7:59 am - Sunday - January 21st - GNHS - 55° F, humidity 100%, wind 3 mph out of the east by southeast......heavy cloud cover today with rain forecast this evening, and a high  temp of 62° F.  On this date in 2019 TLE and I were waking up to a spectacular sunrise in Amarillo, TX.....↴

Saturday began with heavy cloud cover, and by mid afternoon it began to rain on and off the rest of the day, and into the night, and early morning hours, but I get ahead of myself.  So, what to do on a day when the clouds are threatening to drench whatever you decided to do?  How about scratching off a few bucket list items for our kids.....see Slab City, Salvation Mountain, and East Jesus.  We were on our way south on HWY 111 around 9:30 am heading first to Niland, then eastward to Slab City. I'll let the pictures tell the story.....

....when we visited Salvation Mountain last year with Charles and Phyllis we did not visit East Jesus, and I wish we had.....what a cool, funky, artsy place it is, and well worth the visit....could have spent a couple of hours here......

You are greeted at the gate by this gentleman who insists that you touch, and play with the 'art', and we did....lol!

You are encouraged to touch the 'art'

A bank of dozens of old TV's with messages written upon their screens

....we didn't get back until after 12 pm, but within an hour I got everyone over to the hot pools/tubs.....

Rod and Nick got into the flow of things pretty quickly!

Brayden and Jolene in the swimming pool, which was about 99° F on this day

......after our soak (the kids stayed on for quite a while) I headed home for a nap.  I rejoined the group at the Bombay Beach Bungalow around 4 pm.  We had planned to head over to the Ski Inn at Bombay Beach for dinner, but it had been raining for a few hours by then, so we called, and ordered our food to be picked up around 6 pm.  That ended up being the best option as most of the dining area is alfresco, and it was wet out there, so the indoor seating was packed.

I brought over my 'outdoor' smart TV so we could watch the NFL playoff game between the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers....it was a great game decided at the very end with San Francisco scoring a touchdown to go ahead by 3 points 27-24 with 1 minute to play, and that is the way the game ended.  Finally, a truly competitive NFL playoff game!

By the time the game was over at almost 8:30 pm it was time for the kids to be put to bed, and the adults to bid their adieus....what a day, but we had a blast hanging out with our kids, and that is what it is really all about, right?

Thanks for stopping by!
