7:50 am - Wednesday - November 19th - TWW - 41° F, humidity 79%, wind 10 mph out of the south by southeast....heavy cloud cover today with a forecast high of 46° F. On this date in 2024 TLE and I were watching a beautiful sunset at TWW.....
.....a year later it has been raining for three days....lol!
Okay, I've got two days of travel to record here for posterity's sake, so here goes. Monday morning we were up by 5:30 am (hate those early morning departures) to be ready to leave for Poway (near San Diego) by 7 am for my 10 am cardiology appointment with Dr. Mulvihill, who has been my cariologist since May of 2019 when I had my heart attack. We managed to have said our 'until next times', packed the car, and be in the VW heading south by 6:45 am. It's only a two hour drive, but you never know when there will be accidents, and other unforeseen events that delay your travel, so we always allow way more time than needed to sure we are not late.
We took SR-60 east to I-215 south, which has less southbound traffic than I-15 in the morning. As it turned out traffic was not very bad, and we actually arrived in Poway around 8:20 am.....about 100 minutes early for my appointment, but never fear, there is always a Starbucks nearby where one can get a good coffee and pastry to pass the time, which we did.
We arrived at Dr. Mulvihill's office around 9:30 am, and were in the 'little room' by 9:50 am....never hurts to arrive early. Those labs I did back in early October at Quest Labs in Carson City, NV came out great, as did my annual checkup. We were in and out of the 'little room' in less than 20 minutes. I had them send my new prescriptions (I was out of everything) to the local COSTCO so we could pick them up before leaving town. By the time we did a little shopping whilst waiting for the prescription to be filled, and were back in the VW it was close to 11:30 am. We only had a 90 minute drive to Borrego Springs where we planned to spend our last night on the road before making the final 6 hour dash home.
We love the drive over the mountains to Borrego Springs, where we haven't been since early 2024. The traffic continued to be extremely light. It wasn't long until we were descending the Montezuma Grade into Borrego Springs.....
....we arrived at our favorite taqueria, Los Jilbertos, around 1 pm, and within 10 minutes were enjoying their wonderful hard shell tacos....
....I had their two taco combo plate (rice and beans), and TLE an a la carte hard shell chicken taco. I savored every single bite. The weather, unlike Poway, was sunny, and warm, so we were able to eat our lunch entrees alfresco, as is preferred.
By the time we finished lunch, and bought a few things at the local market it was 2 pm, and time to head for favorite local hotel....The Palms at Indianhead. It is a small (10 room) boutique hotel that features a Mid Century Modern motif, which we love. By the time we checked into the hotel (which took 3 minutes), and were in our room (#10) it was time for a long nap. I think I woke up around 3:15 pm.....
.....we had a lovely, albeit short, overnight stay. Around 7 pm TLE opened a bottle of Malbec wine, and provided some cheese and crackers for a snack. I watched some of the Monday Night Football game (MNF) between the Raiders and Cowboys, but it was not a very good game if you are not for the Cowboys. The final score was 33-16, and it wasn't really that close
Thanks for stopping by!
