Fence line shenanigans.........

5:22 am - Saturday - December 7th - TWW - 33° F, humidity 55%, wind 6 mph out of the east by southeast......crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 61° F.  On this date in 2015 TLE and I were at 'The Hat' having their world famous hot pastrami sandwiches.....

.....she still takes my breath away with that wonderful smile!

First thing Friday morning Charles and I got to work on closing a large gap in the fencing that surrounds a 10 acre portion of TWW, which includes their orchard of apple, plum, walnut and pecan trees.  'Free grazing' is permitted in this area of Yavapai County, and occasionally cattle get into the property.  Charles and Phyllis don't want them eating the fruit, when it comes, off the trees.  Charles had ordered a wire tensioner to aid us in stretching the wire from post to post.  I've never used one of those before, so I was excited to learn something new.  I think it took us around 90 minutes to close the 50' gap in the fence, plus add a gate for easy access to the orchard....

.....we had a lot of fun, and it turned out quite well.  Shortly after finishing the fencing Charles and Phyllis left to make the 3.5 hour drive back to the Valley of the Sun, and TLE and I continued working.

I finally began to dig the first hole for the foundation of the dual axis solar array I bought a few weeks ago.  I knew it would be tough going as there are a lot of rocks.  The hole needs to be 2' x 2' square, and 2.5' deep.  At the 1' mark I hit a large piece of old concrete that filled the entire hole.  I had already been working around an hour and didn't want to start over again, so I halted my work, and decided to think on the problem for a while.....

Just started

One foot down I hit old concrete

.....I don't know how deep the concrete is, or how big an area it covers.  I tried using my new pry bar to break it up, but that was going no where.  Since I'm going to pour concrete in that hole, and there is already concrete in the hole I decided to drill holes into the concrete with masonry drills and then drive rebar into those holes.  When I pour the concrete it will be joined to the old concrete by the rebar, and should do the job.  What do you think?  If you don't think that will work, let me know.  I did begin to drill holes, and found the concrete was at least 4" thick.  I want to go down further than that, so I'll need to buy some longer masonry drills in Prescott when we go there on Saturday.  I really don't want to move the hole, as where I am digging is pretty much the optimal place to place the solar array.

By the time I decided to quit digging it was after 3 pm, and I was ready for a shower, so I put away my tools, and headed inside for the day.  It was a little breezy when sunset time came, so we opted to remain indoors, and I did not venture out to memorialize it.

On a side note.....as you can tell, I began typing this blogpost around 5:22 am this (Saturday) morning, but ran out of time before TLE and I needed to leave to drive into Prescott.  I'm just getting around to finishing what I started so many hours ago.  So, why were we going to Prescott?  Well, stay tuned for tomorrow's missive.  Thank you for your patience!

Thanks for stopping by!
