We have wheels!

When I delivered our VW Beetle to our mechanic.....yes, we now call John (Higher Ground Autoworx) "our" mechanic.....I was not in a hurry to get the car back.  After all, we walk and bike pretty much everywhere around SLT*, and probably use the car about once every 7-10 days at the most to do "BIG" shopping......"BIG" shopping meaning more than will fit in a small shoulder bag.  As of Wednesday it had been 10 days, and the cupboards were getting pretty thin, so when John called mid morning to say the car was ready to pick up we were happy.

We made arrangements to meet him at the shop at 2 pm to go over what he had done, and what still needs to be done to bring her up to snuff, as "they" say.  We left on our walk over to the shop at 1:40, and arrived just after 2.  After spending about 20 minutes going over the recommended work I was relieved to know it will not cost much more to get the VW sound mechanically.  We made an appointment for August 20th to get the brakes done, and the oil changed.  Now I just need to find a good deal on some new "shoes" for her (tires).  I knew when we bought the VW back in December we would need to put on new tires in about 5-6,000 miles and we are now at that point.

From there we decided to drive over the hill down to Carson City to do some shopping at Costco, Trader Joe's and a get a haircut for me at Supercuts.  On my last visit to Supercuts the end of June (27th) my hair stylist asked me a lot of questions about our life on the road.  She has wanted to do this for a long time, but her husband kept saying he wanted to work 7 more years.  After our conversation she convinced him to make it 3 years, so they are in countdown mode, and beginning the process of getting rid of "stuff".....how do I know?  Well, she was on duty again this Wednesday and cut my hair again.

We arrived at Supercuts around 3:20, and were out the door on our way to Costco before 4 pm.  We zipped through Costco in about 30 minutes, paid for and got two of their great Nathan's hotdogs for $1.50 each, including drink, and then headed for TJ's.  We were back on the road by 4:45, and home by 5:30.

The next big thing on my list was to install the new Kuat bike rack I wrote about a week ago to be sure it would fit with no adapters, and much to my relief it does fit perfectly!  Now I will clean up the old Yakima and list it on eBay!

By the time all that was done it was getting on to 7 pm, and the end of another great day in SLT*.

Cape Blanco Lighthouse
I know.....it's really an "ugly" place, huh?

I took time to shoot off an e-mail to Ranger Greg at Cape Blanco Lighthouse to reconfirm our arrival date, and to be sure he was still expecting us, and got a quick response back that he was still expecting us on September 3rd!  Yay for us!  By the way, Cape Blanco Lighthouse is the southern most Oregon lighthouse, and the western most point in Oregon.

Thanks for stopping by!
