8:04 am - Friday - July 11th - LPG&RVR - 67° F, humidity 25%, wind 2 mph out of the north by northwest....crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 94° F. On this date in 2018 TLE and I were hiking to the summit of Beech Mountain near Southwest Harbor, Maine....
.....we did a lot of hiking that summer, and experienced some amazing views!
It is so nice to sleep-in to 7 am on our days off work. I did, however, have a 9:10 am tee time reserved, so I quickly composed my latest missive, got dressed, and were were off to the Clubhouse around 8:40 am. I putted on the putting green for about 20 minutes before we headed to the #1 tee boxes to begin the round. When we began I wasn't sure I was going to play more than 9 holes.
My start Thursday was much more auspicious than Wednesday's. I managed to bogey the 1st and 2nd holes, and then headed to the par 3 third hole where I made several bad shots to kind of undo the optimism I was feeling, but then I had a nice tee shot on #4, and managed to bogey that hole. Once again the par 3 #5 hole was my nemesis. Usually I do pretty well with my mid irons, but I hit another errant shot off the tee with my 8 iron, and double bogeyed the rather easy hole. Next up was the very long par hole, but I hit another good tee shot, a so, so second shot, but a great third shot. I messed up my pitch shot, and ended up with a double bogey for my efforts.
I played 7, 8 and 9 pretty decently, so after dropping off TLE at the Newell I headed to the 10th hole intending to only play the 10th and 11th before heading home, but before I knew it I was teeing off on the 18th hole....lol. I managed a par on the 11th (par 3) and 12th holes, a bogey on another long par 5, then bogeyed the 15th, and birdied the 16th (a par 3...I finally got those mid irons working in my favor). I was able to get most parts of my game working well on the back 9, just not always at the same time. I was able to hit a number of good fairway shots with my 3, 5 and 7 'woods', managed to one, or two putt all but one hole, and had that birdie on the 16th....my first birdie on that hole ever.
Over all I played well on the back 9, and hit some very good tee shots, fairway woods, and irons. I guess the only way to get better at golf is to actually play, right? By the time I got home it was a little after 12 pm. After taking a shower I spent time watching Le Tour, and the first round of the Scottish Open being played in Scotland, of course.
Thanks for stopping by!
