8:00 am - Tuesday - December 16th - TWW - 32° F, humidity 25%, wind 3 mph out of the east by southeast.....crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 66° F. On this date in 2021 TLE and I were enjoying an Anza Borrego Desert sunset.....
.....about 8 miles out of Borrego Springs, CA.
We haven't worked on the greenhouse for a few days, and we really would like to get the rest of the firring strips installed to secure the visqueen (clear plastic moisture barrier) with which we wrapped the greenhouse a few weeks ago. At the time we used staple gun to secure the visqueen in place until we could finish securing it permanently with the firring strips. TLE and I have managed to complete the east and west sides of the greenhouse, so we turned our attention to the south side. We began work around 10 am, and finished around 1 pm. Working on the south side put us in direct sunlight with no shade. Even though it was in the 60's it felt like the 80's being in windless direct sunlight, and by the time we finished we were ready to sit in the shade for a while.....
.....I cut a 2.5" diameter piece of PVC pipe in half lengthwise using our band saw, then attached it to the front of the shed, just below the roof line, using self tapping screws. The rain water will run from right to left, to the north side of the shed, then to the back of the shed where we will place a rain barrel to collect the water....we just need the rain barrel to finish it.
.....I grabbed a paper towel and wrapped it around my toe, while TLE continued to work for another 10 minutes. The first paper towel became saturated with blood, and I was beginning to become concerned....who wouldn't be, right? Well, I grabbed another paper towel to wrap around the toe, and finally the bleeding began to subside. Once TLE was mostly done sweeping up glass I headed for my recliner, and she got out the first aid kit. When I pulled off the second paper towel I could see it had stopped bleeding, so she handed me a couple of gauze pads which I affixed to my big toe with the aid of clear medical tape, and you can see the result above. Thankfully, the toe had not bled anymore, and as I sit here this morning composing this missive, the gauze is still blood free, on the surface anyway. It doesn't hurt at all, and I can walk normally. I'm sure I'll be able to reduce the size of the bandage later today, but for now the gauze remains.
