Normally Friday would have been our second day off, and to be fair we did not report for work until 1100 hours. I think I have mentioned before that we are understaffed this summer, and on a Friday where we started the day with 316 sites occupied and had 90 some odd arrivals coming into the park (yup we are maxed out) our manager asked if we would both come in around 1100 to help out.....of course, we were more than happy to do that.....well, mostly happy....
There was a 60% chance of some rain during the day, and that is what we got eventually....'some' rain.....not hard, not long.....just enough to wet the pavement and settle the dust and scare off a few tent campers.
I did not do my normal rounds as at 1100 hours all I had time to do was check on our departures, and then go sit at the entrance to send some arrivals directly to their sites to keep the office from getting more jammed up than normal on a Friday. That is where I spent most of the afternoon when not helping folks get into their sites, or find their sites, or solve mysterious electrical issues with their RV's that were not our fault.....thankfully. It really is humorous when someone comes into complain about 'no electricity' at their site, and you go out to their site with them and show them that there is, indeed, electricity at the pedestal, so the problem must be with their rig. Almost 100% of the time they will reply that "I just plugged in at another RV place a few days ago and it worked....I didn't change anything, or do anything since then.......it can't be my problem"......one lady, after we had proven to her there was electricity at her site said....."Do you think I'm stupid?"......."No, it's got nothing to do with your intelligence, I just think maybe your inside breaker switches have been turned off"......sure enough all three of her breaker switches were in the 'OFF' position.....awkward........before we realized it 1800 hours had come and gone.....we had been on the job for over 7 hours, when we had intended to only be there 3-4....it was that kind of day at TVC.
One cool thing about living in a campground like TVC is you get invited over to people's sites for drinks, lunch, dinner.....you name it. I turn down offers of beer routinely during my shift. Every time I help someone they want to repay me with food, or drink....that's okay, I'm good with that. Friday night we had been invited over to Richard and Liz's site for dinner with a few other couples from the park. I had backed Richard's 5th wheel into their site when they first arrived just after 4th of July as he is getting older (80') and has a hard time doing that, so they insisted we come to their 'block party'.....they have what they call an annual 'block party'.....all you are required to bring is your chair.....they provide everything else. Richard and Liz have been coming to TVC for almost 30 years, and they just happen to be from our home town of Ontario, CA.....we had a lovely time getting to know them better.
It wasn't the Friday I had in mind, but it's the Friday I got......thanks for stopping by!
Happy Thanksgiving!
