6:56 am - Friday - December 22nd - Grand Canyon - 5º F, 65% humidity, wind 1 mph out of the south by southeast....sunny today with a forecast high of 41º F.....a big improvement from yesterday's 28º F high. The snow is still on the ground, but the outlook over the next week is much improved now that the polar vortex has passed us by.......

When we looked a the weather forecast for Wednesday night/early Thursday morning there was a small hint of snow about 2 am......maybe a trace.....for about an hour......well we woke up to 1-2" of snow on the ground.....

Our patio just before 7 am Thursday

.....TLE had the 'open' shift, but she decided to walk.....she didn't feel comfortable driving in the snow, and I don't blame her.  She was all bundled up in her ankle length wool coat, and snow boots and out the door by 7:20 am on her way to work.  I agreed to drive the VW to work for my 'close' shift so she could drive home, and then over to the General Store at the South Rim Village to stock up on groceries in case there is a government shutdown at midnight Friday night.  It doesn't look like there will be a shutdown, but it's always a good idea to be prepared.

I spent the morning reading my book, and listening to Christmas Music on XM Radio channel 4 (thank you Steve Killian!!), which has a more traditional playlist compared to channel 70 (Holly).....

Our wind chimes we bought in Cedar Key so many years ago now, hanging in a pine tree outside our salon window.

......finally it was time for me to head to work.....I was a little concerned about the state of the VW battery after single digit temps overnight, but she fired right up and I was at the employee parking lot within minutes.

Once again the day had been quite slow when I arrived at 11 am....TLE dropped a total of $18 cash after 3.5 hours.....probably mostly employee purchases.   On the other hand I had a relatively busy afternoon and deposited $289 in cash at 5 pm.  In between I helped my floor manager, Ian, essentially 'rearrange the furniture' in the store......we are moving many of the displays around so we can add some more t-shirts, and other outer wear.

By 5:35 pm I was on my way walking home.....the earlier wind had abated, and my walk through woods was actually quite delightful......

.....TLE had bought a pizza from the Deli at the General Store when she went shopping, and brought it home to add anchovies to it.  She then reheated the pizza in our gas oven, and then we had dinner.......I love anchovy pizza!

We watched a recording of the 'Survior' finale from Wednesday night.....it was a three hour show, which would have ended for us around midnight, so we opted to watch it at a reasonable hour Thursday night.  This has been quite an interesting 'Survior' season (the 35th I believe), and Ben ended up winning.....he was my favorite for the last half of the season, and every time you thought his number was up he would find an 'idol' and survive one more elimination vote......he had to 'make fire' to get into the final three.  At any rate, TLE and I were happy with how it all ended.

Shortly after I arrived at work the assistant manager, Wayne, advised I would be given a day off Friday, and TLE would have Saturday off.......as I mentioned previously, due to the expected increase in foot traffic (which has not materialized) we, along with many other employees, had been scheduled to work 14 straight days, so getting an unexpected day off is nice.

Thanks for stopping by!
