8:38 am - Friday - December 29th - Flagstaff - Why am I in Flagstaff, AZ? Well, it's kind of a long story, but the long and short of it all is I had a minor stroke. I woke up Thursday morning, poured some coffee, and began typing my daily missive about our Bright Angel hike, which you no doubt have read by now. While I was typing I kept making a lot of typos with my right hand. Then I began to notice I was kind of slurring my words as I talked with Elaine. I told her something didn't feel right, and maybe I was having a stroke.
We got dressed and she drove me over to the Grand Canyon clinic at South Rim, where they confirmed my suspicion. I was placed in an ambulance and transported over to the hospital in Flagstaff, where I am now.
I have had a very minor stroke, by now the symptoms have mostly disappeared. I was kept overnight for observation, and hope to be discharged later today. The stroke was blood pressure related, so I will be placed on medication for that.
I'm typing this on my phone and it is very awkward, so I will sign off for now with the promise to be more thorough tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping by!

Speedy recovery, our friend. Really good to have recognized your symptoms. Your picture speaks a thousand words, for the treatment you are getting and your recovery. That is a huge relief to your family and friends. Lots to be thankful for.
ReplyDeleteDavid and Denise.....I had a wake up call....could have been much worse. Very thankful I reacted in time!
DeleteOh my not good, but lucky that you noticed the signs and got to the hospital right away. Hope you recover fully and soon will be good as new again.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that. You responded quickly and that is good. May God speed your recovery.

That must have been a little scary! Like you, I've always been and continue to be athletic - but have been on BP meds since my 30s (genetics). The BP meds available today are great. A minor bump in the road. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThank you Steve, that's how I feel....a little bump in the road.
DeleteOh no,hope you recover quickly, and completely
ReplyDeleteThanks to all for your kind comments!
ReplyDeleteTom and I are sending prayers and good thoughts for a complete and speedy recovery. Tell Elaine she is also in our prayers and thoughts.

ReplyDeleteOh dear, Clarke! We are so sorry to hear this! Glad you were quick to the medical centre and got looked after. How our lives change befuddles us but the key is to react. Hoping you will soon be back home to your normal self.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you've made it through the stroke with little ill effect! My brother-in-law had a "minor stroke" last year that left him with a sort of tunnel vision...he has no peripheral vision at all...that took away his ability to do many things, like drive. Rest up, get better soon!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear this news. Get well soon
ReplyDeleteQuick recovery my friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Randal!
