7:33 am - Monday - January 20th - Inauguration day - TWW - 23° F, humidity , wind 9 mph out of the northeast......crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 40° F....BRRRR! On this date in 2013 TLE and I were hopping from one yard sale to another in Cedar Key, FL....I bought this hand sledge, and very old 'spanner'....I still have, and use both....
Then.....
.....now.....and no more rust!
We decided that one day of cutting wood was not sufficient, and we needed to eliminate another burn pile, so we were outside, and on the job by 10 am, even though it was still very cold. Why? Well we had an appointment to see a 1969 Chevrolet C90 flatbed/dump truck for the property at 1 pm, and it would be at least an hour drive to the home of the owner. By 11:45 am we had added a lot more split wood to the wood box on the house deck, as well as filled a couple other boxes, and the burn pile was just a distant memory.....
.....and just like that it was time to change clothes and head to our appointment.
I've been watching this truck on Facebook Marketplace since we arrived here in October, and had actually sent numerous messages to the seller advising I was interested, but never heard back. Sometimes when that happens it is because the item has sold, and the seller just forgot to mark it sold. Anyway, about a week ago I got a notice through Facebook Marketplace that the owner had reduced the price, so it was still available! I messaged them again, and this time they responded. We've looked at several other dump trucks in the last 3 months, but none of them were the right fit for us. The two things that attracted me most to this particular truck were that it runs, and the dump works......and it doesn't hurt that the tires are about 3 years old.....
....it doesn't have the sides, but it is a stake bed, so we can build the sides, and then be able to haul gravel, or dirt, which are not that expensive, but the delivery charge is. When not hauling gravel, or dirt we can use it to haul water, and will not have to wait for Charles and Phyllis to arrive with their Ford F350 truck to haul the water trailer.
Even though the seller lives near Seligman, there is really no direct route to his home, which is high in the hills near I-40 at 6,500' elevation (southwest of Seligman). From TWW it took us 60 minutes to reach the property, and the last 6 miles were terrible....lol. Had I known how bad the road was I may not have driven there. Anyway, we did, and arrived a little after 1 pm. Just as advertised, the truck started easily (has a 366 cubic inch Chevy big block), and the dump worked as it should. We were there for about an hour before striking a deal, which will include the delivery of the truck to downtown Seligman on Wednesday....there is no way I'm driving to that property again....lol!
Interestingly, their property (Daniel and Alyssa Brennan) was featured on the show "Homestead Rescue' about 2 years ago. The episode is from Season 11 and is titled 'Mesa Meltdown'. We watched it last night, and learned a lot of good stuff about the area around Seligman. If you watch the show you will see what I am talking about regarding the road to their property. You can watch it on the Discovery+ channel, which is where we watched it.
Once the deal was struck we headed into Seligman for a late lunch at 'Road Kill' Cafe. TLE and I split a 1/2 pound Black Angus, medium rare hamburger with fries and 'Curly Onions'....the portions are enormous, which is why we split the burger....
.....we didn't get home until almost 4 pm, but it was a very good day.....almost.
Almost? Well, my L.A. Rams were playing the Philadelphia Eagles, and we watched much of the 2nd half at 'Road Kill'. The Rams were down by 5 points with 2.5 minutes to go, and drove down the field to inside the 10 yard line before throwing 4 incomplete passes into the endzone, and losing the game.....bummer! Well, at least it was close. It snowed the entire game. The evening game saw the Baltimore Ravens at the Buffalo Bills in Buffalo, NY where it also snowed the entire game. The game came down to the Ravens making a 92 yard drive, and scoring a touchdown....they were down by 8, so needed to convert a 2 point play to TIE the game, but the receiver inexplicably dropped the pass, and they lost by 2 points. Another close game!
Thanks for stopping by!
