Back to SoCal.....

7:47 am - Friday - November 14th - Jurupa Valley, CA - 61° F, humidity 80%, wind 2 mph out of the east.....heavy cloud cover today with rain....rained on and off most of the night.  On this date in 2013 TLE and I returned to SoCal after being gone for 21 months traveling in our 1982 Newell Classic.  We told our kids we were going to arrive the next day so we could surprise them......

Left to right: Meredith, TLE, Kate, Tim, and moi

....we surprised three of our kids in one stop.....they were leasing our house from us while we were gone.  Later we were able to surprise our daughter, Sharon, at Target while she was shopping.  We called her boyfriend (now husband) Rod, and he told us she would be arriving a Target at a certain time to shop, so we made sure to get there before she did, and were waiting near the entry doors when she arrived, and really surprised her.

We were up around 5:30 am Friday to get ready to make the 5.5 hour drive to SoCal to see our kids, specifically our son Tim, who was flying in from Georgia to attend a wedding.  We haven't seen him since the Spring of 2022 when we flew back to Georgia to visit he and his family, so when we found out his plans we decided to drive back to SoCal where we just were a few weeks ago visiting our other children.

We were in the VW Beetle passing through the entry gates of TWW around 8 am for the 30 minute drive out to US-66.  It was a perfect day for a long drive.  I drove us into Kingman where we filled our almost empty fuel tank, and visited the bathroom.  From there TLE drove about 125 miles to the Kelso/Amboy exit off I-40 where we switched seats and continue westward.  We made one more stop at a Rest Area near Ludlow, CA before arriving in Jurupa Valley at the home of Kate (daughter) and Nick around 1 pm without incident.  They sold their home recently, and are leasing a ranch style home on a golf course until they find their next home.  They have four kids, so there is no room in the house for us, but they have a nice travel trailer of the 'toy hauler' variety parked next to their home where we are staying while we are here....

....often when we come into town we are either living in our Newell at the Elks Lodge, or staying in a hotel, but we like to, from time to time, spend time with our kids at their homes, and this is perfect.  We have our own space, but can head into the house and spend time with Nick and Kate and their four kids without having to drive anywhere to do so.

When we arrived Tim (who is staying with his brother in Rancho Cucamonga) had to attend a wedding rehearsal Thursday afternoon, so we won't see him until Friday morning.  At any rate, we spent time with Nick, and Kate and their kids into the early evening before retiring to the travel trailer for the night.  We'll be here until Monday morning when we head down to Poway, CA for my annual cardiology exam with Dr. Mulvihill, who has been my cardiologist since May of 2019 when I had my heart attack, then we'll head over mountains to spend the night in Borrego Springs, before heading back home to TWW Tuesday morning.

Thanks for stopping by!
