It's a wrap!

5:54 am - Thursday - November 13th - TWW - 51° F, humidity 24%, wind 8 mph out of the southeast.....partly cloudy today with a forecast high of 74° F.  On this date in 2023 TLE and I were having lunch at the Ski Inn in Bombay Beach, CA (Salton Sea).....

.....our kind of funky, dive bar place.

Charles and Phyllis arrived at TWW around 8:30 am Wednesday for their one night stay.  They wanted to get the greenhouse 'wrapped' before they headed back to Phoenix on Thursday.  Charles had a plan for attaching the Visqueen to the greenhouse framework, and just as suspected, it took 4 sets of hands to accomplish the deed.  We worked steadily for about 4, or 5 hours (I lost track of when we started), and by 2:30 pm we were about 80% done.  All that remains is to attach another 150 feet of firring strips over the Visqueen to keep it firmly attached to the framework....

The east side of the greenhouse...entry door is on the right (northside)

About 1/3 done at this point

Done for the day.....about 80% away from completion,
but now the greenhouse is officially enclosed for the first time in years

Vertical firring strips are screwed into place

....the completion of this project has been a long time coming, and marks a significant milestone in the development of The Wilson Wilderness.  Now we can grow food year round, and not just the Spring and Summer. We still need to trim the Visqueen away from the window openings, but the door entrance is already clear.  Additionally, we need to attached another 150' of firring strips horizontally along the roof line, and the roof peaks on the north and south side, but that will go quickly.

By 2:30 pm I was out of gas, and ready for a nap, but TLE and I still needed to refill our fresh water tank, and dump the black tank, which took another 45 minutes, then I needed to put away all my tools.  By the time I had a chance to sit down, and rest it was 3:45 pm, and dinner was at 4:15 pm.  I took a short nap, then headed over to the house for dinner.  By the time I returned to the Newell it was close to 5 pm, so I took a shower, then sat down in my recliner, and took an hour nap.  By time I awoke, sometime after 6 pm, I was starting to feel like I might live.  I think attaching the Visqueen is the hardest work I've done in a long time.

The next thing we need to do is attach rain gutters to the east and west sides of the greenhouse to catch rain water, and snow melt, directing them into the two IBC totes we acquired for just that purpose.  You can see them in the first, and third pictures.

Thanks for stopping by!
