A bridge to far?

6:33 am - Real Saturday - May 16th - Bluff, UT - 50° F, 47% humidity, wind 4 mph out of the east by northeast........partly cloudy today with a forecast high of 86° F.  On this day in 2014 we arrived in South Lake Tahoe to work our first summer at Tahoe Valley Campground.....

Back in 2014 TLE and I visited Natural Bridges National Monument for the first time, and hiked to all three natural bridges in one day.  This is one of the few National Monuments/Parks open right now, and Glenn and Laureen had never been there so Friday was dedicated to making that happen.  We left home around 10 am to make the 63 mile drive to Natural Bridges.  We initially missed the turnoff, but finally arrived at the closed visitors center (bathrooms were open) around 11:30 am.  Within 20 minutes we were beginning our first hike of the day to Supapu Natural Bridge......this is around a 1.6 mile round trip hike with several stair cases, and ladders needed to get to the bottom......

 Lunch time!

 Kachina Bridge

A little windy at the Kachina Bridge overlook

Owachomo Natural Bridge (arch) has the longest span of the three bridges/arches

 Owachomo Bridge

......we only hiked to the first and third bridges as none of us was in good enough shape to do all three in one day, but we had a great time.  By 3:30 pm we were on our way back to Bluff, UT arriving there just after 4:30 pm.  We roll our wheels in about 90 minutes for Durango, CO where we will spend a couple of days before heading north through Silverton, Ouray, and Montrose on our way to Grand Junction, CO where we will refuel.....at least that is the working, Jello plan for right now.

Calling your Bluff.......

7:18 am - 5th Saturday - May 15th - Bluff, UT - 49° F, 46% humidity, wind 6 mph out of the northeast.......high clouds today with a forecast high of 82° F....the view this morning.....↴

Our Thursday plan was to drive 23 miles north eastward to Bluff, UT and snag a couple of spots at Cottonwood RV Park, where TLE and I stayed in April of 2014.  While TLE organized the interior of the Newell for our 23 mile drive I stowed the solar panels, put away our chairs, and got the trailer ready for turf, and then VW insertion.  We were ready to roll around 10 am with Glenn and Laureen departing a few minutes later.

Thankfully, the wind we had for 3 days left us late Wednesday, and for the first time in a couple of weeks we had NO wind, or breeze whatsoever on Thursday.  The drive to Bluff was pretty much over before it began as we arrived at Cottonwood RV Park just before 11 am, and pulled into site #5 (a 70' pull through site).  I was still hooking up our sewer connection when Glenn and Laureen arrived in site #6......

.....our main reason (TLE and I) for being in Bluff was to do laundry.....we haven't done it for a couple of weeks, and our hamper was close to overflowing.  The group reason for being in Bluff for a couple of days is to visit the recently opened Natural Bridges National Monument during our stay.

While TLE made the laundry run I vacuumed out the trailer, which was filthy with red dust after all the wind we had at Goosenecks.  I made a couple of minor repairs, and then went inside to take a long nap.  Just as I was awaking from that great nap I heard TLE return in the VW from her laundry foray.

As the sun began to drift toward the eastern horizon the bluffs (for which the town of Bluff are named) began to light up (the bluffs are to the south of us).......

.....TLE and I watched a couple more episodes of Outlander (9 & 10), and have just 3 episodes left in season 5.  We are off to Natural Bridges and less than an hour so I will wrap this up, and thank you once again for stopping by!

Tony, Tony, Tony......

7:35 am - 4th Saturday - May 14th - Goosenecks, UT - 52° F, 48% humidity, wind - CALM!!!!  NO WIND this morning!  Clear, blue, cool skies today with a forecast high of 82° F.......the view this morning......↴

Every once in a while you need a 'turn down day'......a day when you sort of turn down the volume, and just enjoy being....Wednesday was that day for me......

Turn Down Day by the Cyrkle....perfectly describes my mood Wednesday

......we began our day with moi cooking up some bacon outdoors on our little Coleman single burner stove.......

.......TLE added her wonderful soft scrambled, fluffy eggs, and some fruit.....

Concentrating on the bacon.....

.....and, yes, I am happy!

.....it doesn't take a lot to make me happy, and standing over a cast iron skillet full of frying bacon whilst outdoors does not get much better, except for actually eating the bacon, of course.

After breakfast I spent most of the rest of the day sitting in my anti gravity chair reading with Frank Sinatra playing softly in the background.  Except for a brief interlude where TLE got me to walk out to the point and back, I pretty much was in that chair all day.  The walk out to the point, and back is about 1.6 miles.  There was a slight tailwind pushing us out, and a little stiffer headwind on the way back.......

As far as one can walk....this must be a
great waterfall when the water is running

 .8 miles away

......by 8 pm the wind had died, and we were able to have just our second fire since arriving 5 days ago at Goosenecks.....it was a very nice way to end our time here before we roll our wheels once again......

An evening without wind means an evening with fire!

.....Thursday we are off to Bluff, UT (just 23 miles distant) where we will spend a couple of days doing some laundry, dumping our tanks, and driving up to see Natural Bridges, which is supposed to open Thursday.

Around 9:30 pm TLE and I headed inside to watch the 3 hour finale of the 40th season of 'Survivor - Winners at War'.  It was the best season yet, and TLE and I would have been happy with either of the final three contestants (Natalie, Michelle, or Tony) winning.  In end Tony's game was just on a different level as he garnered all by 3 of the jury's 16 votes.  He certainly 'Outlasted, Outwitted, and Outplayed' everyone else, and had to make fire versus Sarah to get into the final three.  We didn't get to bed under well after midnight.....very unusual for us.
