Saint Barbara......

7:12 am - Friday - 48º F, humidity 66%, wind 11 mph out of the north - Sunny, but partly cloudy.....quite cold, relatively, this morning.......we are on the move today....heading north.

I was up a little after 6:30 am wandering around the house and property of my sister's in-laws......this house is massive, but is long on ambiance and charm....

The main hallway is about 4 times longer than our Newell and trailer combined

These large cathedral type windows are all through the house

One of the Channel Islands in the distance....Santa Cruz I believe

This gravel road connects several houses of family members on this property

By the time I had completed my brief tour Hilary and Stephanie had returned from a local gourmet coffee place with 5, or 6 venti Americanos.....not that they can't, or don't have coffee makers on site, but they love this coffee.  We had a lovely time with my sister and her family, as we always do, even if it was just a brief overnight sojourn.....and brief it was......Bob and Hilary had to drive down to Malibu to see their daughter, Caroline for lunch (her spring break has already come and gone whereas Stephanie's just began) so they dropped us at the AMTRAK station around 10:45 am....we then walked across the street to 'Rebar' for some more coffee and some breakfast while we waited for the northbound Coast Starlight train to arrive from Los Angeles.....

Started raining a few minutes later....

......Yelp gives them a 4 star rating on 122 reviews, and we would agree.....great coffee, great food......I had this amazing egg/sausage sandwich......perfect!  While we ate it began raining, and rained until just before noon time when we made a dash back across the street before it began again, which it did.....in fact it was raining as we boarded the northbound train.......

Looks like rain....

.....for the return trip we had seats on the ocean side of the train, and the views were delightful.....the sun finally came out a few miles north of Santa Barbara......

.....eventually we passed through Jalama Beach (we visited there just a couple of weeks ago).....

Jalama....

.......then we passed through the massive Vendenberg Air Force Base......a missile silo can be seen in the distance......

.......we arrived back in 'SLO' around 4 pm, and were back at the Newell before 4:20 unpacking our bags, then me organizing the trailer for VW insertion Friday morning....yup, Friday is another moving day.....we will continue heading northward and closer to SLT....only about one week from arrival now.

  2. Next time, some awesome sites around SLO! Downtown Farmer's Market (Thursday nights), the Mission, Madonna Inn (check out the men's bathroom), and so on.

    1. We have visited the Mission and the Madonna Inn before.....the bathrooms are something else. We have even stayed there overnight years ago. We did intend to visit the Mission again this time around, but just ran out of time.
