7:13 am - Monday - December 16th - TWW - 29° F, humidity 50%, wind 7 mph out of the east by southeast....crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 62° F. On this date in 2023 TLE and I were watching the Chocolate Mountains light up at GNHS.....
Sunday we drove up the hill to Flagstaff to take a look at a 1989 Ford F350 diesel flatbed truck I found on Facebook Marketplace. We need a truck big enough to pull the water trailer in case water is needed when Charles and Phyllis are not here with their Ford F350. I had arranged to meet with Anthony at 10 am at his place located on the outskirts of Flagstaff off US-89 so we left around 8 am for the drive. Even with a stop in Ash Fork to take on fuel for the Expedition we arrived in exactly two hours. The F350 is not going to win any beauty awards, but she is just what we need. The diesel engine has only 46,000 miles on it, and the chassis only 126,000, so even with its age it is still in pretty good shape....
....it has a crew cab which can seat up to 6 people, the AC and heater work, and it has power windows. The issue it has, and why we didn't buy it Sunday, is the clutch master cylinder needs to be bled, so Anthony and I struck a deal on the price, but only if he can get the master cylinder bled, and the clutch working as it should. We were able to get it into first gear (4 speed stick) and I did drive it around the property, so it does move. At any rate, we left Anthony around 11 am and headed back into Flagstaff where we made a stop at one of our all time favorite thrift stores....Savers. I'm pretty sure I have never left Savers, going back to 2017 when we were working at the Grand Canyon, without something without which I could not live, and Sunday was a bonanza day for me....I bought another Under Armor pullover base layer shirt, a virtually new Carhartt flannel shirt, another cotton mix long sleeve shirt, and a light camo jacket.....
We were on our way to a local laundromat to do a load of wash around 12 pm, and while TLE waited in the laundromat for the washers to finish I walked over to O'Reilly's Automotive, and the local Harbor Freight to do a little window shopping. I ended up buying a small motorcycle battery to power the water pump for our IBC water tote at O'Reillys, and a pneumatic policy kit at Harbor Freight for polishing my ALCOA aluminum wheels. With the acquisition the battery I won't have to move the Bluetti from the trailer over to the IBC water tote when we need to dump, or add water to our fresh water tank.....
....we both had a pint of their Pumphouse Porter, and for our entrees I had their Texas Burger, and TLE their Green Dragon Mahi Mahi sandwich. Both were so amazingly delicious, and the Porters were also exceptional. We were out the door, and on our way to our next stop to buy 3 pairs of lightly used Levi's 501 jeans off a Facebook Marketplace ad for moi for $20 each.....
.....by the time we picked up, and paid for the jeans it was after 2 pm, and we had a long drive home. Thankfully the speed limit on I-40 is 75 so it only took an hour and 45 minutes. We arrived home without incident around 3:50 pm....perfect! It was a long day, but very profitable. Hopefully, I will hear from Anthony later in the week about the status of the 1989 Ford F-350 clutch, and we can return next Friday to consummate the deal, and make it an even more profitable trip. If not, well, there are other trucks out there.
