7:29 am - Wednesday - January 14th - TWW - 35° F, humidity 38%, cloud cover 4%, wind 7 mph out of the east by northeast.....clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 61° F. The view this morning.....
.....and on this date in 2025 TLE and I 'built' a 50' curb at the entrance to TWW.....
.....was it necessary? Probably not, but it turned out great!
After a week of being Newell bound due to rain, snow, and generally very cold weather it was time to break out, and do something productive. Often when this has happened in the past I go nuts, and do way more than I should, then regret it for two, or three days. Not this time! I was very measured in my goals for Tuesday, but still accomplished a lot!
First thing I set about finished the sealing of the open areas beneath the base plate in the greenhouse, which necessitated cutting several 1" x 6" boards to fit each gap, then screwing them in place. That took about 40 minutes, and now the greenhouse is sealed as well as it can be sealed.
Next I took down the Christmas tree....lol! Why do I procrastinate? It took 5 minutes....lol. There was still a lot of ice on the concrete pad in front of the garage, and it was really a hazard, and needed to removed. I think about 65% of the concrete pad was a sheet of dangerously slippery ice. I used a square point shovel to scrape the ice loose, and then a broom to brush it off the concrete. Now that was a hard job, but now it is drying, and safe once again. The concrete pad is on the north side of the garage, and, therefore, is in the shade most of the day this time of year, so it was not going to melt quickly on its own.
Charles brought the new fuel filter for the Ford 420, along with a bottle of some anti-gel liquid when they were here last week, which I put in the fuel tank, and in the fuel filter. Before attempting to start it I hauled the Honda EU2000i out to the tractor, and attached a battery charger to the battery to get it fully charged again. We won't have time to work in starting it until the weekend, but I wanted to get that part done. We're going to have to bleed all the air out of the system, which means we'll probably have to bring out one of those 8d batteries I replaced last winter with the Cloud Energy 300 amp lithium batteries to help turn it over, and move the fuel through the system up to the cylinders, but that will be for another day.
It's been over a month since I last started Phyllis' Newell, and its diesel generator, so I first started up the diesel generator, letting it run for about 90 minutes to top off the chassis batteries, and while that was running began locking up everything (the house, garage, CONEX, battery room, trailer, shed, etc.) as we will be heading to Prescott for a couple of days. I also put away the tools I used, then started the big 6v92 Detroit Diesel, which fired immediately. It took about 10 minutes to air up the suspension system, and then relevel the coach. Everything worked as it should.
Finally, I checked the state of charge on the Ford battery and found it at full charge, so I shut down the Honda and hauled it and the charger back to the trailer, which I then locked it. By the time I finished with that it was 3 pm, and time to close out my work day. For the first time in many days I had the satisfaction of accomplishment, and was tired.....both good things. While I was thus engaged TLE did a load of wash in the house.
Thanks for stopping by!
