7:55 am - Saturday - February 21st - TWW - 25° F, humidity 40%, cloud cover 0%, wind 6 mph out of the east.....crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 49° F. The view this morning....
.....and on this date in 2025 Charles and I were trying to find the sewer line so we could tap into it, and run a hard line from the Newell for dumping our effluent.....
.....it took several hours of digging test holes to find the line. We were way off in our original guesses as to where the line ran....probably about 20 feet off line, but we finally found it. Within a couple of weeks we had installed a 'T', and run a riser to the surface, then connected the Newell for gray, and black water disposal.
We awoke to another 3" of snow that fell overnight, so we were right back where we started Thursday morning. I had to clear a path to the door of the house across the wooden deck, and another path from the Newell to the trailer, plus clear snow off 27 solar panels. We, thankfully, had a mostly clear skies day Friday, so all of our battery banks returned to 100% status by early afternoon. The first snowfall we had Wednesday was very 'wet', but the snow from the Thursday night storm was extremely dry....the kind of snow you want when you are skiing....very, very powdery.
Once again the outdoor temp did not get over 38° F, which is a huge disincentive to being outside. Over the course of the day the snow melted quite quickly, and as of this morning (Saturday) there is more bare ground than snow covered ground. We are hoping the rest will melt today, then the drying out process can begin. Right now the ground is saturated with moisture, and it is beginning to get muddy....not our favorite thing.
On the other hand all of our water catchment storage totes are filling quickly. The one by the northeast corner of the house is over 3/5's full now, and the other two at the house are 2/5's full. Both of the totes at the greenhouse are 50% full, and the blue barrel which catches rain runoff from the shed is 50% full. In all I think we have collected close to 600 gallons of water....water we would not have had otherwise. When they are all full we'll have around 1,400 gallons of stored rainwater.
We spent the bulk of the day reading, and in the evening we watched some more Winter Olympics. There are just 3, or 4 days left in the Winter Olympic games, and soon it will be time for 'March Madness' (annual NCAA basketball tournament), and right after that The Masters in Augusta, GA. Within a week, or so after that we will begin our northward trek back to Likely Place Golf and RV Resort. The world continues to turn, there are just 7 days left in February, and 'time keeps slipping into the future' (Steve Miller Band)....
.....thanks for stopping by!
