'Tis good......

6:50 am - Wednesday - 45 F degrees, 38% humidity, wind 9 mph out of NNE.....departure day!  Our brief stay here at Tuttle Creek has given us a thirst to return for a longer stint the next time we are in this area......the big, long views are are what we have been missing these past 6 months.

Tuesday we had ambitions to do some site seeing out along Movie Flats Road in the Alabama Hills.  Alabama Hills has been a favorite movie location for Hollywood movie makers for decades (click on the Alabama Hills link for a list of movies shot there over the years).  Our main interest, however, was to take the 7/16ths of a mile loop trail to Mobius Arch, a naturally formed arch, of course.

The trailhead for the Mobius Arch hike is a little over 4 miles from our camping location so we headed back north towards Whitney Portal Road, but were stopped by road construction at the intersection of Horseshoe Meadow Road and Whitney Portal Road......the construction guy said it would be a 25 minute wait, but we could go back the way we came and do a detour around which would only take 10 minutes, or so.......so we did.

We arrived at the Mobius Arch trailhead loop around noon time, and began our hike.......

......the trail is well marked like the picture above portrays, and the trail is well maintained.....

.....one of the first rock formations which caught our eye is above......if you look closely you can see the shape of a heart.......very cool......

....the rugged knife like edges of the mountains above are in stark contrast to the weathered, rounded rock formations on the plain below them.......

......in less than 15 minutes we were at Mobius and framing shots of Mt. Whitney through the naturally formed arch........

.....we were back from our site seeing jaunt by 2 pm, and walked down to the edge of Tuttle Creek for another photo op.....TLE is holding a very nice flathead screw driver she spotted in the middle of the dirt road on the way back.........

A couple of perspective shots of our encampment

When we made our grocery shopping run on Sunday TLE picked out a couple of center cut filet mignons to BBQ, an Tuesday evening was the appointed time to crank up the Sea-B-Que.....I grilled them for 12 minutes and 30 seconds, and they came out a perfect medium rare.......TLE added mashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms......delish!

The sun goes down quickly once it gets over Mt. Whitney, but the clouds remain lit up for quite a while........

Of course, the World Series between the Cubes and Inuits resumed Tuesday evening......I almost forgot, and by the time we had tuned into the game it was already 3-0 in favor of the Cubes, and it was only the bottom of the 1st inning.....then the game got out of control for the Inuits when the Cubes' batter, Addison Russell hit a grand slami.....a four run homerun.... to make the score 7-0.....ultimately the Cubes won 9-2, and now the Series goes to a game 7 Wednesday evening......will the Cubes break the 108 year old curse and win their first World Series in that time span?

Addison Russell just after the 'grand salami'.....

Finally, 'tis is good to be boondocking once again....'tis good to be exploring new places again.....'tis good to do it with my best friend.....'tis good to change your view without going through escrow, 'tis to be alive!

Thanks for stopping by!
