Sky Diving, Masters and Tachometers

Sunday was our last full day in Huntington, WV.  We've been at Robert Newlon Airpark RV Park since April 4th, and will be officially departing April 15th.  The air park has a grass runway, and is home to a local sky diving club.  In all the days we have been here Sunday was the first day we saw anyone sky diving.  We saw a few planes take off and land previously, but Sunday was the first time we saw people jumping out of perfectly good airplanes and floating back to earth.  I had a difficult time getting close up pictures of the sky divers, but in this one you can see the red chute (just left of center in the picture) of the sky diver just before he touches down.

It was also Masters Sunday (the fourth round), and this day a new Masters champion would be crowned.  As in many years past someone came out of the field who had not previously won a major tournament to win the day.  It was an exciting afternoon as the lead changed many times throughout the almost 6 hour telecast.  At the end of regulation Adam Scott (Australia) and Angel Cabrera (Argentina) were tied at 9 under par necessitating a playoff.  We watched as each golfer match the other shot for shot, but in the end, on the 2nd playoff hole, Angel just missed his birdie put by an inch, and Adam sank his.  A very thrilling end to my favorite gold tournament.  I might add that they played in wet, rainy conditions for much of the second round.

While I was watching the tournament my friend Richard came by to help me go through one more trouble shooting session on the tachometer.  The last time he was here (last Sunday before I got sick) we had ruled out the wiring running between the engine bay and the dashboard, and had determined that the tachometer was working as it should.  Our focus Sunday was to see if the "generator", or "sending unit" was working.....that is an expensive part (over $200).  By detaching it from the engine and then spinning the generator with a power drill we determined it was sending a signal to the tachometer.  We also ruled out the "generator key" (plugs into the generator), which we pulled out and found it to be in pristine condition.  What we finally determined is that the "generator key" is not spinning as it should when the engine is running.  It should be spinning the generator, which would then send the signal forward to the tachometer.  We ran out of time, so now I need to figure out why the "key" is not spinning.  Getting closer, but still no cigar!

TLE's symptoms have not worsened, but she does appear to have a stuffy nose.  Whether it is caused by allergies, or an actual head cold we do not know......just glad she is not getting the crud I had.  I feel better every day, and now that my appetite and energy have mostly returned I feel up to guiding the Newell down the highway Monday.

We wish our time here in Huntington had not included my second round with the flu, but it is what it is.  We are looking forward to moving again, and visiting our nation's Capitol for the first time.

Thanks for stopping by!
