Friday was a watershed day for TLE and I......we each received our 'bank', deposit box key, username and password, so we can begin to cashier starting Monday when the counting of the inventory is finished. Unlike Mammoth Hot Springs we will maintain a $400 cash drawer throughout our Grand Canyon sojourn.
Around mid morning TLE and I were sent over to the 'Trading Post' to help with counting inventory, which involved counting inventory not yet put out for display, much of which was contained in cupboards underneath the display cases. Not my favorite thing to sit on cold concrete, but it is only temporary. We took our lunch break at 1 pm as we had the prior two days, and were back counting inventory from 1:30 pm to 5 pm to close out our day. There is nothing else remarkable to report.
One of the things I like about this Desert View location is being able to walk to and from work with most of the walk being along a dirt path through the juniper forest.....I'll have to remember to take some pictures.......it is really a nice walk!
We punched the time clock at 5 pm and were on our way walking home shortly thereafter......we were both walking along talking about our day when we rounded a bend in the trail to find ourselves face to face with a large bull elk....all by himself eating juniper foliage.......
....TLE got the best picture (above)......we were standing around 20-25 feet from the bull at this point.......I'm not used to being this close to a bull, cow or calf, and, frankly, I was a little antsy about being that close, especially when he would raise his head and give us the 'stink eye'.....
......after snapping a few pictures I encouraged TLE to move on down the trail away from the bull.....I'm pretty sure rutting season is over, so the bulls are not as aggressive as they were a month ago, but I feel much better when there is more distance between my body and any bull elk.
For the second evening in a row I fired up the Sea-B-Que to grill some Nathans hot dogs, and some hamburgers.....we spent the evening catching up on some recorded programs such as 'Survivor', Blacklist, and Gold Rush before turning in early so we could get an early start Saturday.
Thanks for stopping by!
