The 'Backyard'.....

7:35 am - Thursday - March 31st - Elks Backyard, CA - 55° F, humidity 52%, wind 4 mph out of the south....overcast today with a forecast high of 68° F. On this date in 2013 we were walking around downtown Ashville, NC.....here is the Basilica St. Lawrence....all red brick.....↴

After the long day Tuesday getting our oil, and coolant changed we slept in Wednesday until after 8 am.  It was nice waking up and realizing we had no where to be, and no obligations whatsoever, and since our car is still at Joel's Automotive getting its oil, and coolant changed we could go no where, either.

I checked the coolant level in the big Newell radiator first thing in the morning and found about one gallon of air had burped out, so I added another gallon of Power Cool to fill the large holding tank atop the radiator.  I expect I will be repeating that task a couple more times before all the air escapes.....

.....I don't know if I have ever put a picture of our radiator on the blog, but here it is.  She is 7" thick, 3'2" wide, and 3'6" tall, and must weight a few hundred pounds empty.

Next up I decided to take another bicycle ride west on the PET* trail, and was on my way a little after 10 am.  There was a little a little headwind out of the west, but in spite of that I was averaging 12.4 mph at the Rochester turn around.  By the time I arrived back at the Elks Lodge my average speed for the entire ride had climbed to 13.4 mph.  I decided to continue past Linden all the way to Cedar before turning around and heading back to the Lodge so I would top 19 miles ridden, and I ended up at 19 miles, exactly....

.....with 1,071 caloric units banished in 1 hour and 25 minutes....the old guy has still got it!

I spent the rest of the afternoon reading, then napping, then going outside to 'dress' the tires on the Newell.  I haven't 'dressed' them in a few years, but with the shiny ALCOA wheels looking so good, I thought the tires needed a little attention, too.  To clarify, I rarely, if ever dress the tires, and I am aware that doing so can cause damage if done on a regular basis, so it is not necessary to send me a message warning me of the dangers of doing so.  Once every 2, or 3 years will not cause any measurable harm....that's my 2 cents, and I'm sticking to it.....

....by the time I finished with that it was closing in on 5 pm, and the end of another day in the Elks Backyard.  In case you're wondering, I call where we stay the 'Elks Backyard' as that is the name on the WiFi we use while we are here, and we are literally staying in the 'backyard' of the Lodge.

Thanks for stopping by!
