7:31 am - Friday - October 13th - LPG&RVR - 36° F, humidity 67%, wind 7 mph out of the south by southeast.....partly cloudy skies today with a forecast high of 66° F. On this date in 2017 TLE and I were overnighting at Ririe Reservoir near Idaho Falls, ID......↴
We slept in Thursday morning until almost 8 am as we were not planning to be on the road out of Medford until after 10 am. TLE had her final eye appointment in Alturas at 2 pm, so there was no great rush to get to Alturas until 1 pm where we would have lunch, and then deliver TLE to her eye appointment. As I lay there in bed before getting up I began to think of all the things which must be done between that hour, and when we finally roll our wheels sometime Friday. It is my nature to make mental lists. I've learned doing so only serves to make me anxious, and believe all those things which must be accomplished before we roll will take more time than is available, and, not too surprisingly, it never takes nearly as long as I imagine. When I catch myself thinking too much about what needs doing I try to put it out of my mind, and just think about the first thing I need to do, and then, in the moment, move on from there. I, however, get a tad ahead of myself.
We were in the VW a little after 10 am, and after making a quick stop at the local Starbucks for a couple of 'cups of joe', and then we were on our way south, and east back to LPG&RVR. The drive southeast on Highway 140 was beautiful. We reached Klamath Falls in a little over an hour, and without stopping, continued ever southeastward on Highway 39 (Oregon) to Tulelake where it changes to 139 (California). We've driven this highway many times this year, and as we passed familiar landmarks we silently bid adieu to them until next summer. As planned, we reached the outskirts of Alturas around 1pm, and within a few minutes, arrived at Lazy 'B' Cafe where we split beef brisket laden hamburger, and fries before heading over to Alturas Eye Center around 1:40 pm. While TLE went inside for her appointment I waited in the car, and before too long she was opening the passenger door. Her eye health is great, and the surgery is healing nicely, by the way.
After a quick stop at Holiday Market, also our last stop this season, for a few items, we continued our journey on southbound US-395 to LPG&RVR where we arrived just after 3 pm. As we drove south on US-395 we could see a significant amount of snow had fallen while we were gone.....
The Warner Mountains, and Eagle Peak are covered in snow
....after unloading the groceries, and baggage from the VW we changed clothes, and headed outside to begin ticking off the list of things which must be done before rolling our wheels.
The first thing we had to do was to fold up the artificial turf to let the underside dry out before we drag it into the trailer sometime Friday morning. From there we just moved to the next thing, and the next thing. The first 'next thing' was to wind up all the rope lights around the trailer, then turn off the Starlink so I could remove the 'dishy' from its perch on the trailer before we began to move the trailer out of its cubbyhole where it has resided these past 6 months using our new Trailer Valet.....
....this was the main thing I wanted to accomplish Thursday afternoon as the sun was quickly sliding toward the western horizon, and we got it done. Due to the fine gravel the trailer is parked upon we have to place a 4' x 8', 3/4" piece of plywood under it so the wheels on the Trailer Valet will not spin (see above), and it works quite well.....
Where the trailer is now
....shortly after we finished moving the trailer the sun hit the local mountains.....mission accomplished!.....
Where the trailer used to be....the sun is just setting....our final sunset at LPG&RVR this summer
....we managed to get the popup canopy and my golf clubs stowed, the artificial turf folded, and ready for insertion, many of the rope lights rolled up, and the trailer moved onto the road so we can drive by it in the Newell Friday, then back up to it, and drop the trailer on the hitch.
We'll have to stow the Starlink 'dishy', now sitting on the ground overnight, disconnect from city water, drag the turf into the trailer, and finally insert the VW before liftoff. Our goal is to be rolling early afternoon, if not sooner, southbound on US-395.
Thanks for stopping by!
