Batteries included.....

7:34 am - Thursday - January 25th - GNHS - 50° F, humidity 92%, wind 5 mph out of the east by southeast....cloudy today with a forecast high of 64° F.  On this date in 2019 TLE and I were overnighting at an RV park near Holbrook, AZ on our way to Winslow, AZ.....finally back to the wide open spaces after being east of the Mississippi over 8 months......

We awoke to fog Wednesday, but by 8 am it had mostly been burned off by the rising sun.  We had no advance rental bookings, so it was another lazy day in the SoCal desert for TLE and I.  We took the first of two 1 mile walks around 9:30 am, intending to be on our way into Mecca for a small shopping foray by 10 am.  The walk went well with us averaging 3.5 mph.....

Fog is gone, but it is still chilly

....after our walk we changed clothes and went out to hop in the VW, but when I clicked the key fob to unlock the doors nothing happened....wait, what?  It's been a long, long time....maybe 10 months, since I forgot to turn off our XM radio receiver, but I apparently did not turn it off last week after our shopping trip to La Quinta....doh!  When it remains on for 4-6 days without the car being started it drains the battery down pretty far.  Well, the best laid plans and all of that, right?  Now I had to pull out the battery charger, and hook it up to the depleted battery for about an hour to get it started.  The charge was successful, and by 11:30 am we were on our way into Mecca, where we arrived without incident 30 minutes later.  Nothing like 30 minutes of driving at 70 mph to put the pep back into your starter battery!

We needed mostly produce on this day, so it did not take long for us to buy what we needed, and be on our way back to GNHS, where we arrived, again without incident, about 1:30 pm.  I spent part of the afternoon working on the installation of the final two new reading lights which are located at the front of the Newell over the dashboard.  Initially I thought it would not take long, but that's what I get for thinking too much....lol!  The holes that were cut by Newell to install those particular lights are pretty big, and I could see pretty early on that I would have to fabricate two more pieces of 1/8" plywood to cover those holes, and provide a mounting point for the new lights, so I spent about an hour doing just that, then sanded them, and stained them.....

The original Newell reading lights....not very bright

The hole which must be covered before installation of the new reading lights

....around 3 pm I did my toning workout, then at 3:30 pm TLE and I took our second 1 mile walk.....

.....this was our 31st one mile walk this season, and combined with our 9 two mile walks we've covered almost 50 miles now....maybe we'll make it to 100 miles before we leave at the end of March.  And that reminds me....we've got just a shade over 2 months before we roll our wheels north once again to Likely Place Golf & RV Resort!

We watched the final two episodes of 'Archie' (Cary Grant) Wednesday evening, and as it turns out it was just  a limited 4 episode presentation of the 'life and times' of Archie Leach, aka: Cary Grant.  It was very well done, and we both highly recommend it.  He made a lot of mistakes in his personal life, but in the end he figured it out, and it was nice to learn that about him.

Thanks for stopping by!
