8:01 am - Tuesday - January 23rd - GNHS - 49° F, humidity 100%, wind 3 mph out of the west......very cloudy today with a forecast high of 64° F. On this date in 2017 TLE and I were in Quartzite for the Big White Tent week....caught a beautiful sunrise.....↴
Rain had been in the forecast for Monday for over a week, but you never know whether it will materialize here at GNHS on the east side of the Salton Sea. When fronts coming from the west hit the Salton Sea they most always seem to split around the 'sea' and we never see any of the moisture. That was NOT the case Monday. We were up a little after 7 am, and it not only looked like rain was on the way, but it smelled like rain. By 8 am it was, indeed, raining, and it continued raining for 5, or 6 hours at a pretty steady pace.....soon our 'lido deck' was under water......
Even the putting green is under water
.....for the first time in a month, or more I did not set foot outside the Newell the entire day.
We had a brief break in the rain around 2 pm, but by 3 pm it was raining again, and it was still raining when we went to bed a little after 10 am. I read this morning (Tuesday) that San Diego got almost 3 inches of rain in just a few hours resulting in wide spread flooding. No doubt other coastal areas up and down the California Coast got slammed, too, so it makes our minor 'lido deck' flooding seem rather inconsequential, right?
We (COA) actually had a two hour rental Monday around 10 pm, which Hunter handled. I can't believe anyone would choose to go out in that rain, but they did. I spent most of the day, catching up on a number of YouTube channels I follow, interspersed with a couple of nice naps. After a socially busy weekend with our kids I'm sure I needed those naps.
Well, as I write, I can see blue sky breaking through the cloud cover, things are drying out, and the 'lido deck' waters have receded. I looks like we'll be able to get in a couple of 1 mile walks today, and get back to what passes for normal mid-week activity here at GNHS.....maybe even a soak is in my near future.
Thanks for stopping by!
