The deluge, part 2

7:26 am - Friday - February 2nd - GNHS - 51° F, humidity 92%, wind 3 mph out of the south.....mostly clear today with a forecast high of 65° F.  More rain on the way come Monday and Tuesday.  On this date in 2013 TLE and I were experiencing our 37th consecutive sunset at Cedar Key, FL....perhaps the most beautiful of them all, and there were a lot of amazing sunsets that December/January/February......

.....the water so perfectly reflected the sunset on this evening!  We arrived in Cedar Key around December 28th of 2012, and left in early February of 2013, so we saw over 40 sunsets that season.

Rain was forecast to begin Thursday morning, and continue to early evening, and that is exactly how it turned out.  It began raining around 10 am, and it was still raining at 7 pm.  In the middle of all that one of the two large transformers which power GNHS blew around 1:30 pm, and we have been without power since then.  We haven't used our Honda eu2000 generator in a long time, so I pulled it out of the large through storage bay (goes from one side of the Newell to the other side....8 feet long) and plugged in the coach not knowing how long we would be without power.  Well, the saga continues this morning (Friday)....still no power.  We are awaiting the arrival of electricians from Yuma, AZ (why Yuma I have no idea....Indio is only an hour away) to assess and fix the problem.  In the mean time TLE and I are very happy we topped off our two 6 gallon gas cans, plus our 2 gallon gas can a few weeks ago.  We can go for over a week if necessary.....we hope it's not necessary, but that is why you prepare, right?

We probably got another 1/2 - 1" of rain Thursday, so there will be more standing water out in the desert.  Before the rain storm there was already a lot of standing water out there, as well as along HWY 111.  No doubt the area between us and the Bat Caves is a muddy quagmire right now.

Being that it rained all day long we spent most of the day indoors, but we did get a 1 mile walk in before the rain came at 10 am, so we've got that going for us.  TLE blew off the after walk picture, so it is just me today.....

....to be fair, it was beginning to sprinkle as we returned to the coach.  I'm happy to report that we covered the 1 mile out and back walk in 16 minutes and 57 seconds averaging 3.6 mph....that's the fastest TLE has walked this winter.  Sometimes the only motivation you need to walk faster is impending rain.

We watched another English Premier soccer match played between Wolverhampton and Manchester United....Manchester led at half time 2-nil, but had to hang on to win 4-3 with 10 minutes of added time in the second half....quite a game!

We finally turned off the Honda eu2000 around 10:15 pm and headed for bed.  It was weird to see the entire park pitch black, with no lights on anywhere.  As I write our faithful Honda eu2000 is purring along in the background providing electricity so I can type my blog, and our Suburban gas furnaces are heating the Newell interior.  It's been a while since we ran them, too, so they're also getting a little long overdue exercise.

Thanks for stopping by!
