7:02 am - Monday - April 14th - TWW - 50° F, humidity 19%, wind 6 mph out of the east by southeast......mostly clear skies today with a forecast high of 80° F. On this date in 2018 TLE and I were having dinner with my brother, Philip, and Jeannie, his wife at one of our favorite SoCal eateries.....
....Pomona Valley Mining Company in Pomona, CA.
While it was certainly less windy Sunday morning, than it was Saturday morning, it was still a tad windy, but we did manage to install 4 more roof panels on the greenhouse. I said in yesterday's blogpost that there were 20 in all, but there are really only 18 to install, so now we have just 10 to go having installed 8 so far....
.....by the time we called it quits on the work for the day it was 11 am, and time for the leaders at The Masters to tee off for the 4th, and final round, so we put away our tools, and headed indoors for the next 4+ hours to see who would be this year's champion.
It was a crazy day at Augusta National. Rory McIlroy began the day with a two stroke lead at 12 under par, but by the beginning of the third hole he had surrendered that lead, and was down by 1 to Bryson DeChambeau (11 under par). Within another 30 minutes he was back to 14 under par, and led the field by 4.....what a seesaw! The day was filled with amazing shots at times by Rory, and terrible, mystifying mistakes. When the dust finally cleared after 72 holes of play Rory was tied at 11 under par with Justin Rose, so a playoff was in order. Both Rory and Justin hit great tee shots on the first playoff hole (18th), and both hit great second shots into the green, but Rory's shot ended up 2 feet from the hole, while Justin's was just over 10 feet. Justin putted first and barely missed his birdie, but Rory sank his two footer for birdie to win the 89th edition of The Masters, and become just the sixth player in PGA history to win the career Grand Slam (Masters, PGA, US Open and British Open), and just the third player in PGA history to win the Grand Slam, and The Tournament Players Championship, which he did just a few weeks ago (Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods being the other two)....
......I know people all over the world rejoiced for Rory when he finally, after 11 years, won The Masters and the coveted Green Jacket. It was probably the most popular win since Tiger Woods rebounded from years of injuries to win his 5th Masters in 2019 on the same exact date (April 13th) as Rory and Jack. Before that you would have to go back to 1986 when Jack Nicklaus, in the sunset of his career, who hadn't won anything in a while, unexpectedly won his 6th Masters at the age of 46. Rory is just 35 years old. Congratulations to Rory McIlroy on a victory well earned, and deserved!
Thanks for stopping by!
