7:30 am - Sunday - August 17th - LPG&RVR - 59° F, humidity 50%, wind 1 mph out of the southeast....heavily overcast this morning with a forecast of rain later (already rained for quite a while last night), and a forecast high of 81° F. On this date in 2012 TLE and I were visiting Multnomah Falls near Portland, OR.....
....this was one of our 'bucket list' items when we began our nomadic odyssey earlier in 2012.
And here I thought Saturday would be the easy day of my four day work week....lol! Not so much. While it began slowly, by early afternoon we had put out every Yamaha gasser at least once, and 5-6 twice, plus all four round nose Club Car gassers, and a few of the square nose Club Cars. I'm thinking we rented around 25 golf carts during the course of the day.
You notice I did not mention the five Club Car Electrics, and for good reason. It was time to check the water levels in the thirty 8 volt batteries it takes to run those five carts. There are six of the 8 volt batteries per Club Car, each with 4 cells, so 24 cells per cart to top off with distilled water times 5 is 120 cells to check. I began working on the batteries around 10 am, and didn't finish until well after 11:30 am after having consumed 4 gallons of distilled water in the process. Those babies were thirsty!
The only time I left the Clubhouse area was to go down and turn on a couple of sprinklers at the 'Night Office', otherwise I was at the Clubhouse my entire shift. After TLE's lunch break I emptied all of the trash cans in the immediate vicinity of the Clubhouse, then retrieved the 2 bag Husqvarna to mow between the Clubhouse deck and the putting green, then the Stihl string trimmer to trim along the deck area to be sure the area looked its best for the upcoming, weekly putting contest.
For the rest of the afternoon until 3:30 pm I washed and stowed the returning golf carts, however by the time I finished there were still 12 golf carts on the golf course, so Dave will have a lot of work first thing Sunday. When I returned at 4 pm for the putting contest there were still 6 carts outstanding.
As I have reported, our good friends Tom and Darlene are here for a few days on their way home from Alaska, so we invited them over for the putting contest.....
.....I haven't putted for over two weeks, and while I putted decently against my first opponent I made a bad first putt on the first hole and lost that point, then tied the second, but he had a hole in one on the third, which I failed to match. I then only managed ties on the last two holes so I lost 2-0. I wasn't terrible, but he was making great first putts every single time.
After the contest I headed home to take a nap until TLE arrived home, then we planned to have a quick meal and head over to Tom and Darlene's coach to visit some more. TLE didn't get home until close to 6 pm as it was a very hectic day in the office, and it took her quite a while to reconcile all the accounts. By the time we got over to Tom and Darlene's it was after 7 pm, but we did enjoy visiting with them until after 9 pm. They bought a special Freightliner chassis based motorhome for their Alaska trip, as the roads up there would have beat up their 2002 Newell badly....
....there are hundreds of miles of gravel roads up there with a lot of frost heaves, and potholes. Their 2002 Newell is very low to the ground, even when at ride height, so it was not even a consideration for them to drive it to Alaska. The Freightliner chassis based coach, which has a lot of ground clearance, handled the roads pretty well, and ended up being a great choice for them. I'll take some pictures later and post them.
We were in bed a little after 10 pm. Around 2 am I awakened to rain on our riveted aircraft aluminum roof.....nice! Time to enjoy another four day weekend!
Thanks for stopping by!
