Resort??

 9:22 am - Saturday - September 18th - Seal Rock, OR - 55° F, 94% humidity....not sure how it is that low.....has been raining since 5 pm Friday, wind 22 mph out of the south, and I believe that for sure.....very windy right now!  Forecast high for today is 59° F.  On this date one year ago I deployed my drone to take a few pictures of our location......↴

Coming in for a landing....

The weather guessers were predicting a three day storm beginning late afternoon Friday, and TLE and I wanted to get out for a drive south to Sea Perch RV Resort located about 7 miles south of Yachats.  We've driven by this place several times in the year we've been here and really wanted to check it out, and check on possibly working there next summer.  We left around 11:30 am to make the 25 mile one way drive.  The skies were already turning dark gray presaging the advancing storm......

.....we arrived at Sea Perch a little after 12 pm, and went inside to meet Tony and Barbara, the managers of this RV resort, and unlike many RV parks ascribing the term 'resort' to their facility, this one is really a resort in ever sense of the word.....

....there are only 29 full hookup sites at this seaside resort, and every site has a 60' x 25' concrete pad.  All the interior roads are paved with asphalt.  The club house is enormous, and includes a gym, game room, and lounge area as well as very nice tiled bathrooms with large, tiled showers....

.....the front row of RV sites are all pull in sites, meaning you pull into the site front first so you have a view of the ocean if  you have a Class A, or C motorhome.  There are utilities on both sides of each of these sites so you have the option of backing into them if you wish.....

....we talked with Tony and Barbara for about 30 minutes, and promised to send then our resumes so they might consider us for the summer of 2022 as resort hosts.

On our way back north we stopped off at Cook's Chasm to take in the views.  We've passed by this vista point many times, but never stopped.  It was well worth the time......

.....our next stop was Yachats Brewing Company for a couple of brews, and lunch.....by this time it was getting quite stormy, and windy.  On this day we may have chosen to eat indoors, but the only table available was alfresco.....alfresco is not always desirable.....lol...

....we got quite chilled sitting outdoors, and ended up finishing our brews, and getting a doggy box for the rest of our lunches.  It was great to get home and turn on the heaters and get warm again!  I took a long beer induced nap waking up just before 4 pm.  The rain began shortly after 5 pm, and it continued raining unabated all through the evening, and continues now as I write.

In two weeks.....

8:50 am - Friday - September 17th - Seal Rock, OR - 55° F, 82% humidity, wind 5 mph out of the south....partly cloudy today with rain later....forecast high is 64° F.  On this date in 2012 TLE and I were touring Red Rocks, an amazing outdoor music venue west of Denver, CO.....↴

Occasionally when I work by myself, as I almost always do on Thursdays, I take care of a few things around the park I have noticed over the past week which need attention, such as the Landscape Shed.....it was getting a little disorganized, so I spent the first half hour of my three hour shift putting things away, and emptying the trash can, which was close to overflowing.  From there I moved down the hill to do a little hedge trimming in Greg's site (he's been living in that site for 13 years now), then I got out the self pro-propelled lawnmower and mowed the entire beach path, and around the gravel settling area for the WDS plant.  I took a 30 minute break to do site checks, and then finished mowing.  By the time I hauled the clippings from Greg's site to the 'burn pile' it was time to put the tools away, head for home, and begin our two day 'weekend'.

In the process of trimming the hedges on the backside of Greg's site I also trimmed back a large hydrangea bush.  About the same time TLE came walking over from the office to bring me some park brochures, and saved a few of the blooms for our coach....

.....around 5 pm TLE and I took a leisurely walk down to Seal Rock Beach....which is always beautiful rain, or shine......

....we were going to cross over the volcanic lava flow which separates the north section of the beach from the south, but found the rising tide blocking our way so we turned around.....

.....it was a splendid way to end our day, and begin our weekend.  In exactly two weeks on September 30th we will work our last day at SRRVC, and will be changing our view for the first time in over 6 months.

Full circle.....

 7:40 am - Thursday - September 16th - Seal Rock, OR - 41° F, 87% humidity, wind 6 mph out of the east......clear, blue skies today with a forecast high of 62° F.  On this date in 2014 TLE and I were walking on 'north beach' at Cape Blanco, OR........↴

With the park still pretty full the things upon which I could work Wednesday was a short list.  I had that picnic table I had scraped Tuesday, and the the front group lawn area needed a little attention so that is what I chose to do.  It took me about 90 minutes to paint the table, at which time I hopped into the cart to do site checks.  I discovered during site checks that one of our departing tenants had not yet departed.  I asked TLE to call them, which call went to voice mail.  She also emailed them to no avail.  Within minutes of that discovery the incoming tenant for that site arrived.  This is the first time that has happened in months.  Fortunately we had an open site in which to put the new arrival and they happily accepted the new assignment.  I went on to mow the group area, which brought me to 1 pm, and 3 hours worked.

TLE had a pretty busy day, especially since Michele, the office manager, is on vacation, so she (TLE) worked 6 hours Wednesday.  She continued to try and reach the delinquent departing tenant all afternoon, with no success.....she was home a little before 4 pm.  They (the delinquent tenant) finally returned a little after 4 pm, hooked up their trailer, leaving in a cloud of dust without so much as an explanation.  They, of course, will be charged for an extra day.

It was past time to dump our black tank of another 8-10 days of effluent, so I took care of that while TLE was working the second half of her split shift.  While I was at it I took down one strand of solar lights on the driver side of the coach, thus the beginning of the dismantling of our nighttime outdoor lighting system has arrived.....always a bittersweet time for TLE and I.

The smell of Fall is definitely in the air, and sunrise is now at 6:56 am, while the sun now sets at 7:25 pm bringing us full circle in our year long journey around the sun on the Coast of Oregon.

Site A-3

Our managers (Terry and Michele) left on vacation Tuesday leaving Fred and I to our own devices.  The park was pretty full so we moved one of the freshly painted picnic tables to site 5 in exchange for the one there which needs painting.  While I worked at scraping the table down in preparation for a new paint job Fred got out the pole trimmer and touched up a few hedges in site 25.  By the time I finished with the table Fred was done trimming so I helped him rake up the cuttings and haul them up to our burn pile for future consideration.

I had a haircut appointment scheduled for 2 pm, but it was only 12:30 pm so TLE and I decided to tackle another long postponed item on our 'to do' list.....apply a new coat of water proofing to the Sunbrella fabric on our ZipDee patio awning.  I bought the aerosol cans of water proofing months ago, but it was never the right time to do the deed....

......we applied the water proofing in three stages.  Obviously, the awning is too wide for me to to able to reach the top when fully deployed, so we stowed it 2/3's of the way in, and while TLE held the awning strap tightly to keep it in place I climbed the ladder to spray on the water proofing.  Here TLE took a picture as I covered the last third with the awning fully deployed.  Ahhhh.....one more thing to cross off the 'to do' list.

By the time we finished with that, and I had taken a shower it was time to drive south to Waldport to get my last haircut.  Whilst I had my ears lowered TLE went next door to browse in the local thrift shops.  After I was finished with my haircut we drove down the street to 'Fresh Mexican Food' for a late lunch.  The weather was perfect, so we opted for their alfresco seating option......

....we had a delightful time talking and slowly eating our entrees, cherishing every single bite.  We were home before 4 pm.

 7:25 am - Tuesday - September 14th - Seal Rock, OR - 46° F, 100% humidity, wind - CALM.....clear, blue skies today with a forecast high of 64° F.  On this date in 2012 TLE and I were having lunch at Zquila Mexican Restaurant in Ft. Collins, CO....we had been on the road just 7 months at this time.....↴

Fred and I returned to the office area again Monday to finish trimming the hedges from the office through site D.  While Fred trimmed the hedges I mowed and string trimmed around the office, park model, and sites C and D.  By the time our two hour shift wound down the trailer was overflowing with hedge clippings.  After dropping yet another load at the dormant 'burn pile' I dropped Fred off at his Class A motorhome, and headed for my own Class A motorhome.

The north wind returned Monday, and by 5 pm it was pretty blustery, but we managed to avoid stowing the awning.  With the return of the cold north wind I opted to remain indoors most of the afternoon, only venturing outside right after I got home to check on a few things in the trailer, and then to close up the trailer late in the day.  I took time to schedule my last haircut at Waldport Family Cuts for Tuesday....it has been almost 7 weeks since my last....far, far too long. Of course, I say that almost every time.

TLE and I continue to be not only asymptomatic to the Wuhan Flu, but have had not so much as a sniffle during our entire stay here on the Oregon Coast.  We are blessed to be far away from population centers where people are being forced to be vaccinated, or lose their jobs.  What have we come to in America?  What has become of the that independent American spirit?  What has become of the national aspiration....."Out of many one".....we are being separated, segregated, if you will, into opposing camps by our government, the lame stream media, and the national elites......we used to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority, but it has now become fashionable to tyrannize those with whom we do not agree.  I'm reminded of a few C. S. Lewis quotes which uniquely come to bear on our current political and social climate:

"When the whole world is running towards a cliff, he who is running in the opposite direction appears to have lost his mind"

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the 'good' of its victims may be the most oppressive.  It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busy bodies. 6 months.....

 7:42 am - Monday - September 13th - Seal Rock, OR - 45° F, 93% humidity, wind - CALM......sunny today with a forecast high of 60° F.  On this date in 2018 TLE and I were sitting atop Cadillac Mountain watching the sun rise......↴

On Sunday we celebrated our sixth month of residence at SRRVC since returning from our one month vacation.....we have slightly more than 2 weeks left on our contract....time is drawing shorter by the day.

Knowing, as you walk down the hill to report for work, that work will only be 120 minutes long is a good feeling.  I can do most anything for 120 minutes, then I've got the rest of the day to do what I wish.  On this particular Sunday Fred and I reported to the WDS plant to clean the filters.....they were supposed to be cleaned last Tuesday, but TLE and I were doing highway pickup on US-101, so it got deferred.  There were no hitches, and we were done within 30 minutes and on to more pleasant tasks.  In just two weeks Fred and I will perform that task for the last time....it is one of those 'last things' I will not miss.....lol.

It fell to me to mow/string trim the 'valley' in front of the office....you know, the large drainage ditch.  While I was doing that Fred trimmed some hedges....there are always more hedges to trim.  Since the grass in the valley wasn't too thick after weeks of dry weather I was able to mow 75% of it, and string trim the balance.  Usually it takes me 1.5 hours, but being able to mow most of it this time cut the time down to 1 hour.  After putting away my tools I assisted Fred in collecting the hedge clippings and hauling them to the 'burn pile'.

I was home a little after 12 pm, took a shower and settled in to watch....not the NFL, but a series of YouTube videos about a guy who saved a 1977 Porsche 911 Targa from its 15 year exile in a wrecking yard to restore it.  It was quite a mess when he began the process in his back yard shed in January of 2020, but by a week ago he was almost done.  There are 29 videos in this playlist ranging from 16 minutes to almost 40 minutes in duration.  Here is what it looked like when he brought it home back in January of 2020......

.....today he has completed the 'frame off' restoration, and has just reinstalled the 6 cylinder, air cooled Porsche engine.  He had to remove 7 layers of paint to get to bare metal.  If you're interested look up Budget Buildz on YouTube and watch the series....there will be more videos as he is not quite done yet.  This is a great example of what you can do on a limited budget in your backyard, and still get a quality end product.

The day began with fog and wind, but by the afternoon the sun had made an appearance, and the wind had abated.  It turned out to be a very nice afternoon which segued into a delightful sunset.....

More things off the 'to do'......

 7:22 am - Sunday - September 12th - Seal Rock, OR - 54° F, 100% humidity, wind 5 mph out of the north by northeast......heavy overcast with fog now, partly sunny later....the forecast high today is 61° F.  On this date in 2017 we were in Jackson Hole, WY.......↴

My plans for Sunday were much less ambitious than Friday.....I wanted to get the new sewer vent cap installed, run the Kohler/Perkins propane generator for a while, turn over the big Detroit Diesel 6v92 engine, and pull the wheel covers off the Newell tires to see if my experiment worked.  First up was the sewer vent cap....the old one looked pretty gnarly....

I think I over did the silicone seal last time....lol!

I had to use JB Weld to hold the cap together until the new one arrived....without the JB Weld it would have been dust....lol!

.....once I had the old vent cap off I cleaned the surface of the roof, then installed the new PVC vent cap sealing the bottom with outdoor silicone.  The old cap had a 5 screw pattern, while the new one has a 6 screw pattern, so I sealed the old holes with silicone, then used self tapping Phillips head screws to attach the new vent cap........

I believe the PVC material will fair much better against the elements

.....next up I topped off the generator fluids, then fired her up....she started immediately and ran like a top until I shut her down 15 minutes later.  Likewise, the big Detroit Diesel 6v92 fired up and ran for about 15 minutes until it came up to temperature.  It's been 7 weeks since I last ran the Detroit, and during that time we have stayed perfectly level, and only this week the air pressure dropped below 100 psi...that's the best our air system has ever performed while being parked for months at a time.

The final task of the day was to pull the wheel covers, then remove the shrink wrap (front wheels), and card board discs (rear wheels) to see if they had mitigated the salt air intrusion.  The results are mixed.....the wheels on the driver side faired better than the passenger side, but there was salt intrusion, and there will be a little cleanup necessary for them to shine like they did in March when I last polished them.

By the time I finished the last task it was after 4 pm, and time for a shower.  In spite of the offshore clouds we managed to get a sunset shot once again.....
