Al fresco......

7:16 am - Friday (5th Saturday) - February 14th - Borrego Springs, CA - 43° F, 67% humidity, wind 6 mph out of the southeast.....very clear, very blue skies today with a forecast high of 74° F.

Our favorite breakfast place in Borrego Springs is the Red Ocotillo just off the Christmas Circle roundabout.  From our boondock location it is a little over 8.5 miles to the Red Ocotillo door to door.  Thursday seemed like a good day for TLE's second long eBike ride, so we left for town around 9:45 am, enjoyed a trouble free ride arriving at the Red Ocotillo just after 10:30 am (they stop serving breakfast at 11:30 am)......

....we quickly found an al fresco table, had our coffee and pastry within a minutes, and settled in for a nice breakfast cooked by someone else's hands....

A pastry is included with your cup of coffee

.....as is my custom when eating breakfast at the Red Ocotillo, I ordered their version of Huevos Ranchero.......

.....which happens to be in my top 5 ever.....I was not disappointed.  TLE ordered their biscuits & gravy, and one fried egg over easy....she is a big á la carte person.  We sat enjoying our food, and each other for over an hour.  We decided, on the spot, to alter our return route and run by Galleta Meadows on the north side of town to see the famous 'sand dragon' which spans both sides of Borrego Springs Road about 2 miles out of town......

The closer you get the more detail you see!

.....three years ago we made it a point to see all of the metal sculptures around Borrego Springs.  These sculptures were created by Ricardo Breceda, as commissioned by Dennis Avery, a now deceased heir the Avery Label fortune, who created the Galleta Meadows concept.  Click on this Galleta Meadows link to read more.  The 'sand dragon' (over 350' long) is just one of over 130 metal sculptures found around Borrego Springs, and is our favorite......we try take an 'usie' every time we visit Borrego Springs.

Our return route had us following Henderson Canyon Road back to S-22, and then back to our Newell encampment.  In all we covered 19.1 miles in one hour and 39 minutes of riding time, and it was 12:51 pm.....

....I spent the rest of the afternoon puttering around making some adjustments to my Haibike, and getting both of our batteries recharged.  Once the batteries were charged I put the bikes away, and headed for my anti gravity chair on the 'lido deck' to read my 'book' (Kindle)....what a relaxing afternoon!  While were on our bike ride our house batteries achieved, once again, 100%.

There was no wind once again, so another sunset fire was definitely in order.......

.....once again, right on queue, the sun set over the San Ysidro Mountains........

When you have a lot of time on your hands

.....we sat talking quietly about our day, and our future plans as we always do around a fire....it is one of my great pleasures in life....

.....TLE prepared another wonderful dinner using the remaining two of the 4 salmon steaks I grilled the night before accompanied by another great salad....we are eating so healthy!  We watched 3 more episodes of 'Outlander', and were in bed by 10 pm reflecting upon another day lived well.

Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I read all his stories many years ago, these days if I see one on the bargain shelf or if I'm in an area he wrote about I'll go look for the book.
I don't recall that story, a good reason to look for it!
Thanks for getting back to me, enjoy!
