The locker......

7:11 am - Monday - November 22nd - Fontana, CA - 66° F, 16% humidity, wind 17 mph out of the north by northeast......crystal, clear, blue skies today with a forecast high of 81° F.  On this date in 2013 TLE and I were staying at Rancho Jurupa Regional Park near Riverside, CA.....it had just stopped raining as the sun was setting.....↴

I've written about utilizing the Amazon lockers to receive our orders since we arrived here in Fontana, CA.  Originally we were having things delivered to a locker in Rancho Cucamonga since we were driving over there every few days, but since then we've been using lockers located about 1.5 miles from us inside a local Carl's Jr.  One cool thing about using the Amazon lockers is your order goes directly from a local Amazon fulfillment to the locker.....no UPS, no FedEx, no USPS.  The result is things often get to us in about 24 hours, or less.

On Saturday we retrieved an Amazon order form the Carl's Jr. in the form of a shutoff valve for our Oxygenics shower head.....

.....we've had the shower head for about 13 years (as long as we have owned the Newell).  Between the shower head and the water supply hose is a valve which enables you to regulate the flow of water, or even shut it off.  That valve is a plastic twist valve, and over the years it finally wore out, so I ordered a new one, which arrived at the aforementioned Amazon locker on Saturday afternoon....

.....the new valve is stainless steel, with a much easier to use quarter turn paddle.  As I was installing it the threaded end on the Oxygenics shower head broke off.....yup, broke off.....doh.  Anyway, I immediately ordered a new one off Amazon for $20 around 4 pm on Saturday, and it was at the Amazon locker by 10 am the next morning.....just 18 hours door to door!  To me these lockers would be preferable even if you lived in a sticks and bricks house.....a much faster, more secure delivery method than leaving the package on your porch.  By using the lockers you cut out the middle man (UPS, FedEx, USPS), and potential 'porch pirates'.....lol.

It's time to refill my blood pressure prescription as it has been almost 90 days since I got the last refill in Newport, OR at the Fred Meyers Pharmacy.  I was pondering how to most effectively transfer the prescription to SoCal when it suddenly occurred to me that Fred Meyers is owned by Kroger, and so is the local Ralph's Super Market.  I drove over to the Ralph's around 10:30 am, and on the way picked up our new Oxygenics shower head from the locker at Carl's Jr.  At Ralph's it was just a matter of handing my prescription bottle to the pharmacist, who easily transferred the prescription in seconds.  Within 15 minutes I had my new 90 day prescription and was on my way home....easy peezy!

Within 30 minutes of arriving home I had the new shutoff valve attached to the new Oxygenics shower head, and that attached to the supply hose, and order was restored in our Newell household.....

.....as I wrote yesterday, we endured another Santa Ana condition Sunday with wind gusts getting up to 30 mph at times.  Finally by mid afternoon the winds had abated enough to redeploy our awnings (including the patio awning).  The forecast showed the winds decreasing hour by our the rest of the day, and into the night, but as often is the case the weather guessers were off a little. Around 9 pm the wind speed rose again, and we were forced to stow the patio awning for the balance of the night.  As I write this current post the winds have finally given way to gentle breezes.
