Moving Day!

The picture above makes me a little nostalgic, and it has only been a few hours since we left that view behind!  We spent a little over 2 weeks with our good friends, Bob and Karen at their hillside home just south of Coupeville a few miles.  I've posted several other pictures of the view, but I never get tired of it.  It will be a year before we have that view again!

Yesterday, Tuesday, we spent the better part of the day getting ready to leave today.....putting the bikes into their travel positions in the trailer, clearing stuff out of the trailer, so we can get the car back in, etc.  In the early afternoon we went into to Oak Harbor to do some light shopping.....at least that was what I was told.....$114 later we escaped the vortex of Safeway supermarket.....lol!  We also ran by one of the thrift stores again to pick up some throw pillows for our coach.....we have both been unhappy with the pillows we had for a long time, but we found 4 at the thrift store that are great replacements for $14....total!

Later that night we had our last dinner with Bob.....Karen had left earlier in the day for Seattle.   After dinner we went outside to the deck to light the outdoor fireplace and watch the sun set, and, of course, talk.  A nice final evening to be sure!

Wednesday, today, I got up around 6:30am and had a cup of coffee, and then set about the final chores of cleaning the front windshield, mirrors and side windows, and then began unhooking our umbilical cords....water and electric.  Around 9:30am I rolled the coach off the leveling platform in front, and then with only a couple of backups got it turned into the driveway and up the hill I went.  Bob came out around 10:10am to pull our trailer up the hill, and after saying our "Goodbyes" we set about dropping the trailer on to the coach hitch, and then loading the T-Bird for the first time in 2 weeks.  We finally finished the launch sequence and headed for the ferry to Port Townsend....only 6 miles away, and we made it in about 11 minutes.  We had made a reservation, recommended due to our 61' length, so all we had to do was pay the balance and go to the front of the line.  The cost was $95, and that must seem like a lot, but if we had chosen to drive highways all the way it would have cost us over $130 in fuel....we would have had to drive back north through Anacortes, then east to I-5, and then south to Olympia to pickup HWY 101 to Port Angeles....over 236 miles of driving....our total distance driven today using the ferry was under 50.  I think we made the right choice.

Our ferry view......looks like we are driving on water!

The view to the rear outside the driver's side window.....very cramped!

After exiting the ferry we headed south a few miles on HWY 20 to the local Safeway gas station and bought $200 worth of diesel at $3.82/gallon, then were off further south to pickup up HWY 101, and then west to Sequim (pronounced Skwim) where we stopped at the local Costco to buy some scotch and yogurt (I know....an odd combination), then walked over to Starbucks for a Mocha Frappuccino.    We arrived at Conestoga Quarters RV Park around 2:30pm where we snagged a full hookup site for $20!  Again, no reservations!  The appeal of this park was their 72' pull throughs, which meant I did not have to drop the trailer.

We'll spend a couple of nights here, and in between we will ride our bikes into Port Angeles for some site seeing capped off with visits to a couple of local brew pubs.  We plan to spend about 8 days exploring the Olympic Peninsula before crossing over the Columbia River to Astoria, Oregon.

The temperatures continue to be cool....hit 72 today, and not a cloud in the sky.  We've actually had 2 days in a row with sunshine.

That was our Wednesday.....thanks for stopping by!
