3:10 to Yuma

Tuesday was a travel day for us......driving to Yuma, AZ for dental appointments just across the border in Los Algondones, Mexico.  We got a referral from good friend, Nina Fussing (Wheeling It).  I remembered reading her blog last year about this time when she and Paul made an annual visit to their dentist in the same city, so I contacted her for the name of the dentist.  For those who have not been to Los Algondones previously there are about 300 dentists, 150 optometrists, and 30 pharmacies (my numbers........I'm sure they are no where accurate, but I am sure you get the gist).   Mixed in are a few souvenir vendors.  Nina referred us to Dr. Eva Urenas on the corner of B Ave. and 4th......about a 4 block walk from the border.

We departed Wittmann at Noon, and get this........arrived at our Yuma hotel at exactly 3:10 pm.....hence the movie reference.......3 hours and 10 minutes to Yuma.  The 3+ hour drive was uneventful, just as we ordered it.......we stopped once in Buckeye to fill up with fuel, and one more time at a rest area about 26 miles after we merged on to I-8 westbound.  I had made reservations at the Holiday Inn Express in Yuma to spend the night, and within a few minutes after checking in we were on the move once again......Nina gave us another referral for the Prison Hill Brewery in Old Town Yuma, so we were more than obliged to follow her instruction.

We arrived at Prison Hill Brewery around 3:45 and immediately ordered a four beer flight.....Ninkasi Vanilla Oatis Stout, Wasatch Pumpkin Stout, Beast Brewing Sandman Pecan Porter, and the house Prison House Solicitation Stout......hmmmm....3 stouts and a Porter......any trend here?

Ultimately TLE ended up with the Beast Brewing Sandman Pecan Porter and I  the Ninkasi Vanilla Oatis Stout based on our 4 samples.  The Prison Hill Solicitation Stout was a little too 'hoppy' for my tastes, but that is just me.......

For our late lunch/early dinner I ordered the 'Bail Out Sandwich' which is essentially a bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato sandwich, but it was oh so very, very good......I cherished every single bite.  TLE had the Southwest Bandido Salad, which she likewise loved.

 The 'Bail Out' sandwich.....aka: BLAT

This is our kind of funky, rustic place, and the next time we are in Yuma we will definitely visit this brewery again.  On our way out we walked into the middle of a car show getting ready to start.

It was a lovely afternoon to walk around Old Town Yuma, and with a bunch of cool vintage autos it just got better.

Thanks for stopping by!
