It is about time!

9:09 am - Sunday - October 23rd - GNHS - 69° F, 41% humidity, wind 8 mph out of the west by northwest.....crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 78° F.....ahhhhh, that's more like it!  On this date in 2011 I was getting ready to officiate a soccer match at the San Bernardino Soccer Complex....one of the few things I still miss about my former workaday life.....↴

Saturday was a tonic after 3 days of hauling palm fronds....the temp only got to 85° F, and we slept in until after 7 am for the just the second time since we arrived.  One of the several reasons we chose this job over other possibilities was the lure of the hot springs.  In our 10.5+ years of nomadic travels we have visited numerous hot springs around the western US:

1) Keough Hot Springs (south of Bishop, CA)
2) Fremont Hot Springs - twice (Montana)
3) Chico Hot Springs (near Gardner, MT) 4, or 5 times in the summer of 2017 when we were in Yellowstone
4) Tecopa Hot Springs (near Shoshone, CA) - twice
5) Warner Hot Springs (Santa Ysabel, CA)
6) Yellowstone Hot Springs (near Gardner, MT) 2, or 3 times in the summer of 2020
7) Downata Hot Springs (southern Idaho) back in October of 2017
8) Agua Caliente Hot Springs (near Borrego Springs) Winter of 2021
9) Evans Plunge (in Hot Springs, SD) summer of 2020
10) Surprise Valley Hot Springs near Cedarville, CA whilst we were working at LPG&RVR (June of 2022)

The chance to work, and live at a hot springs facility was more than we could resist, so here we are in late October of 2022 at another hot springs, but something is dreadfully wrong.  What can it be, you might wonder?  Well, we've been here almost a week and we have not taken one dip in the Glamis North Host Springs hot pools.  I decided around 9 am to walk over and take a dip.....

....in addition to the 3 hot pools, and the swimming pool, they have about 10 of these individual tubs, which is what I chose for my first dip.  I soaked for about an hour before heading home.  It was exactly what my body needed after 3 days of lifting large bundles of palm fronds from the ground into the dump trailer.  Since it was still early morning I had the place entirely to myself....perfect!

I spent some time putting out more of our rope lights, and assessing the condition of the solar rope lights before heading inside again as the temp rose into the mid 80's.  Again, mid 80's is not that hot, but the direct sunlight is so intense here at -54' elevation that if feels like it is over 100° F.

Around 4:20 pm we headed to the restaurant for another round of pizza pie construction.  On this night the pizza operation was only going to be open for orders from 4:45 pm to 5:45 pm as here at GNHS they have two Halloween celebrations each October (last two weekends of October), and the costume judging, site decoration judging, and 'trick, or treating' was to begin at 6 pm.  Over the course of the one hour we produced 10 pizzas, and after a brief cleanup we were back home just before 6 pm....nice!

We've been playing a card game called 'Phase 10' for a few weeks now, and holding 10 cards in your hand makes one's thumb sore.  TLE initially bought some small fan shaped card holders at Walmart the other day, but I was still not satisfied so she went on Amazon and got these new ones....they're like small 3 story condominiums.....lol....

.....all that being said, they do the trick, and I no longer have a sore left thumb from trying to cradle 10 cards in my left hand.  Of course, on this particular phase (#9) I was looking for 5 of a kind, and 2 of a kind.....not an auspicious beginning....lol!  I never got to put any cards down and got stuck with 10 in my hand when TLE laid her cards down on the second draw....doh!

By the bye.....our Starlink dish works great here, and we are seeing even higher mbps speeds than ever.....on average we are seeing 100+ mbps.  Finally, we are still asymptomatic to the Wuhan flu almost three years into the pandemic.  Living in rural America has paid off for us big time!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. So good to see and hear you guys are doing great and experiencing many awesome opportunities. I really miss the traveling, but feel I am where I should be for now. I am really loving it here in Post Falls and I have a really good job that I am enjoying. I just bought a new used car to me.....a 2015 Ford Escape. I just love it.....I have been dealing to long with old cars that I keep dumping money into and this last one the transmission was going out. I was done, and I happen to be in a better place with my job and finances so I made the plunge. It is so nice to have a nice dependable car and AWD to deal with the bit of snow we do get here. My RV has been sitting for a year and I have decided to clean it out and put my belongings in storage and sell it. It has to many fixes and repairs that have to be done that I not able to do and I just don't want to spend the money and still have a old RV. So I am doing to sell it and we will see what the future holds as to what I get next or do. In the meantime I plan on taking some road trips with my Ford Escape. Take care and stay well.
