The final touches?

9:00 am - Wednesday - October 26th - GNHS - 65° F, 29% humidity, wind 4 mph out of the south by southeast.....still crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today, and the forecast high is still 80° F.  On this date in 2017 we were chillin' on the shores of Lake Powell at the Lone Rock boondock site we love so much......↴

We didn't report for work Tuesday until 8 am as we knew we only had about 3-4 hours of work left.  The temp at 8 am was around 60° F.....just perfect....

......over the course of 3.5 hours TLE and I cleaned the sites outlined in red.....or about 44 sites in all.  We managed to get more done in a shorter period of time as the remaining sites we cleaned were much shorter in length.  By 10:30 am we were done, and headed for home.

After resting for a while we went back to work on putting some final touches on our site environment, which involved setting up the Sea-B-Que, and stringing those Edison lights we bought while we were at LPG&RVR.  We haven't grilled any steaks for a few weeks, and we have a lot of frozen steaks in the freezer which need to be enjoyed.  On this night TLE chose to have me grill one of the 3 top sirloin steaks we got  for $6 each at the Holiday Market in Alturas about a month ago......

TLE, wearing one of her Goodwill finds, setting the table

......I grilled the steak for 4 minutes on each side, and got it to a perfect 125° F, (medium rare).  TLE provided sides of sliced tomatoes with salt, pepper and lime juice, and a baked potato.  That steak was so tender....OMG.....nothing like aging the meat to get it tender!.....

.....to chase our food TLE opened a bottle of Sterling Pino Noir (Willamette Valley in Oregon).....

.....around 6 pm all of our lights came on (they are on timers), so I took a few pictures.  I think we have just about finished creating our 'lido deck' environment......

.....after TLE cleared the table we decided to play another round of 'Phase 10', but outside this time.....the temperature was perfect, and we played until after 7:30 pm to the sounds of the Etta James channel on Pandora......

....the only thing that now remains is to have our first fire of the Fall/Winter season, and that will be coming sooner that you might think!

On the job front, there has been a slight change in what we will be doing here for the next 5 months.  In past years the owners (Cal and Roslyn) have rented Razrs to customers, but the lease they had on the 10 Razrs they rented expired a few months ago, and the renewal terms were not favorable, so they returned them to the leasing company.  All that being said, the current facilities manager, Kyle, who works here in the Fall/Winter, spends his summers (with his wife Kristen) in Durango, CO where he works for an outfit called Colorado Outback Adventures (they do Razr and Jeep tours, as well as white water rafting) doing Razr tours.  Their Razs sit idle ever winter, as one might imagine, so they came to an agreement with Cal, the owner here, to bring their Razrs down here to rent them.  They need onsite mangers for the operation, as they will not be here all the time, and TLE and I have accepted their offer to run the rental operation, which will run from Thursday through Sunday each week.  We'll have Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off each week.  If it all works out we'll be getting more consistent hours each week....32-40.  We'll be responsible for renting them, getting all the paperwork completed, cleaning them, and doing minor servicing each day (washing them, checking oil, blowing out air cleaners, and the clutch compartments, changing flat tires, etc.).  That new job should begin this coming Tuesday when Bob and Casey arrive from Durango with their Razers.....we are very excited about this opportunity!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. How exciting about the new job with the razors.....you are so good at fixes and repairs, keeping things clean and ready to go. I think it's the perfect team job for you both.
