Road trip.....

6:26 am - Tuesday - October 25th - GNHS - 53° F, 42% humidity, wind 4 mph out of the east by northeast......crystal clear, blue, sunny skies today with a forecast high of 77° F.  For the first time since we arrived I turned on the salon heater this morning.....it got down to 60° F in the bedroom last night!  On this date in 2013 TLE and I were sampling some Wolf Oatmeal Stout, and Black Lager at Idaho Brewing Company in Idaho Fall, ID......↴

I've been a slackard once again.  I really meant to write about Sunday after TLE and I finished cleaning sites Monday afternoon, but I was tired, and didn't, so the net result is you will get two blog posts today, first up, Sunday.

Sunday:

We were completely free Sunday to do whatever our hearts desired.  Our pie making enterprise runs Thursday through Saturday evenings, and we would not be cleaning sites until Monday, so what to do?  How about our first trip into La Quinta/Indo since we arrived?

We wanted to visit the local Home Depot in Indio, then the Goodwill a few doors down with maybe a COSTCO and Trader Joe's thrown in for good measure.  When we used to make this drive last winter while we were boondocking outside Borrego Springs it would take us an hour to cover the 60 miles.  From GNHS the drive to the Home Depot is around 37 miles, and takes about 42 minutes.....a big difference!

We left home in the Beetle around 11 am and arrived at the Home Depot without event around 11:45 am.  We wanted to add some plants to our site #55 environment, so we headed directly to the Garden department.

We bought three young geranium plants, a few Christmas cacti, and a dragon's breath.  Additionally, we bought four more 'pavers' to add to the 5 which were already in our site to make a path from the artificial turf to the awning mat in front of the trailer so we would not have to wear shoes to walk to the trailer.  TLE found that there was a Smart and Final virtually next door to the Home Depot so we decided we would not go to COSTCO, or Trader Joe's this time around as she was able to buy everything she needed there.  Next up was the Goodwill, again just a few doors down, and we both came away with several items without which we could not live.  For me it was three new pairs of boardshorts (swimsuit).....my old OP's were size 36" waist, and with my 30 pound weight loss they are way, way too loose.  For under $20 I now have three new ones from which to choose, and two of them are pretty much brand new!

There was a Subway sandwich shop next door to Goodwill, so we decided to get a couple of 6" Subway's and each lunch there....pretty cool that we did all our shopping and eating in a small one block area.  By 1:45 pm we were on our way back to GNHS with our spoils, and after a quick stop in Mecca to checkout the local convenience stores (Mecca is only 29 miles from GNHS) we arrived back home by 2:40 pm.  After putting our things away we began to set out the plants, and while TLE worked on that I began to lay out the pavers....

The geraniums

The Christmas cacti

Dragon's breath

There are a lot of these concrete garden borders in our site, so we created a couple of small gardens

The pavers laid out before excavation

The pavers after excavation....nice

....the rest of the afternoon melted away quickly, and before we knew it we were experiencing another of those amazing SoCal desert sunsets......

....a nice way to end a busy day!  Thank you for stopping by!
